A fashion mixtape

"The rock star who uses a personal stylist to dress him should go to jail. If you're doing rock and roll, you should know how to dress. You shouldn't need to hire anybody." ~Jean Touitou, A.P.C. designer

I was browsing through my iTunes and thought I'd create a video mixtape of a few fave style-related songs for this blog. Going out on a limb of overwhelming creativity, I call this playlist "Songs of Fashion."

xoxo JINNIELEE

1. Of Montreal - "Suffer for Fashion"
Have you ever seen Of Montreal live? They are amazinggggg. Lead singer Kevin Barnes is incredible in his zany costumes and theatrical makeup. He's not kidding when he sings about suffering for fashion. He speaks the truth.

More songs after the jump!! A song of summer, a blast from the past, a classic.....2. Weezer - "Undone" (aka The Sweater Song)
Who doesn't long for old school Weezer? I mean, this song is about a sweater!!

3. Nancy Sinatra - "These Boots Are Made for Walking"
Boots boots boots boots boots boots boots.

4. Mika - "Grace Kelly"
I also highly recommend seeing Mika in concert! The experience is like being on an acid trip if the acid was made of Fruit Loops and glitter. Mika wore a sparkly studded hoodie over a sparkly studded tee and Cheap Monday skinnies.

5. Madonna - "Vogue"
I mean, I don't really have much to say.

And honorable mentions!! (Just because these songs don't have music videos but they should!!!!)

6. Vampire Weekend - "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa"
These guys are everywhere! They are such a perfect example of a group of musicians who don't need anyone to tell them how to dress. Their aesthetic is pretty phenomenal. And Ezra Koenig references Louis Vuitton and the colors of Benetton in this tune. It's very fitting. Listen on Vamp's MYSPACE.

7. Jill Sobule - "Supermodel"
That "supermodel" song from Clueless!

My friend knows I'm a fan of Project Runway and he just sent me this sketch from last night's Saturday Night Live. Looks like PR winner Christian Siriano (who I've been rooting for this season) has just reached a whole new level of fame. Congrats Christian!!

I think this video takes a hot sec to connect, but if you just press the play button, should get going. Enjoy!

adidas REMIX teamed up San Francisco-based streetwear brand Mama for the first female silhouette hi top. These adidas x ProMama kicks are limited edition (le sigh) with only 500 pairs available in the U.S., but these sneakers are really a total steal at $100 a pop. Check out some sweet girlie touches like quilted hearts and a gold-plated Mama insignia! And be sure to hit up your closest specialty sneaker boutique as these have already hit the streets. More shots under the cut...

Jumper round the world (and cyberspace)

Hello, bonjour, nei-ho, and ciao Nylonettes!! Cover stars Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen (for NYLON Guys) star in the new movie Jumper, which I checked out over the weekend. It was worldly eye candy for a xenophile like myself -- I highly recommend it for fans of adventure and culture. Besides feasting on grand panoramic views of Egypt, Paris, Rome, the Arctic, Hong Kong, and New York City, UK-based actor Jamie Bell was the film's additional sweet bonus as a wise-cracking confidant-cum-villain. Intense!!

Anyway, real-life fashion darling Bilson doesn't get much of a wardrobe in Jumper, but the name of the movie got me thinking of a different kind of jumper....the jumper dress!! By definition, a jumper dress is meant to be worn over a shirt but nowadays you can nix the top and still serve a jumper's purpose of making someone look precious and adorable. And we all know that Rachel B. knows a thing or two about layering dresses over tanks and tees! So now let's hop around to some online retailers and take a look at some cute jumpers (most of which are now on sale) that you can add to your spring closet. Adieu!

xx JINNIE L.

The ladies of Mooka Kinney are not only the loves of our lives, but they sure know how to make whimsical retro-vintage-print jumpers. www.mookakinney.com

We also can't get enough of Urban Outfitters! Here are two different options from Lux and Super Lucky Cat. www.urbn.com

CLickzy for more!!I love Built By Wendy's wool and denim jumpers from last season (so very on sale, fyi). www.builtbywendy.com

From www.bluefly.com... this white jumper dress is from Velvet. The one underneath that is from buttery soft C&C California.

And you can't overlook the overwhelmingly amazingness that is www.shopbop.com. This frock comes from L.A.M.B. I especially love the slight bubble hem and the big pockets. This one just looks really comfortable to wear.

Finally, I leave you with Urban Outfitter's sister company Free People. This one is neat because it's like a cable knit sweater but looks thin enough so it won't feel bulky. www.freepeople.com

Later, jumpers!!
