A fashion mixtape
11 03 08 - 16:52 "The rock star who uses a personal stylist to dress him should go to jail. If you're doing rock and roll, you should know how to dress. You shouldn't need to hire anybody." ~Jean Touitou, A.P.C. designerI was browsing through my iTunes and thought I'd create a video mixtape of a few fave style-related songs for this blog. Going out on a limb of overwhelming creativity, I call this playlist "Songs of Fashion."

1. Of Montreal - "Suffer for Fashion"
Have you ever seen Of Montreal live? They are amazinggggg. Lead singer Kevin Barnes is incredible in his zany costumes and theatrical makeup. He's not kidding when he sings about suffering for fashion. He speaks the truth.
More songs after the jump!! A song of summer, a blast from the past, a classic..... 2. Weezer - "Undone" (aka The Sweater Song)
Who doesn't long for old school Weezer? I mean, this song is about a sweater!!
3. Nancy Sinatra - "These Boots Are Made for Walking"
Boots boots boots boots boots boots boots.
4. Mika - "Grace Kelly"
I also highly recommend seeing Mika in concert! The experience is like being on an acid trip if the acid was made of Fruit Loops and glitter. Mika wore a sparkly studded hoodie over a sparkly studded tee and Cheap Monday skinnies.
5. Madonna - "Vogue"
I mean, I don't really have much to say.
And honorable mentions!! (Just because these songs don't have music videos but they should!!!!)
6. Vampire Weekend - "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa"
These guys are everywhere! They are such a perfect example of a group of musicians who don't need anyone to tell them how to dress. Their aesthetic is pretty phenomenal. And Ezra Koenig references Louis Vuitton and the colors of Benetton in this tune. It's very fitting. Listen on Vamp's MYSPACE.
7. Jill Sobule - "Supermodel"
That "supermodel" song from Clueless!
