“The colors and the silky, sparkly dresses!” bursts Anna Mariya on what she loves about Anna Sui, moments before the willowy model pranced down the runway in metallic chiffon and a paisley-printed crinkled frock to “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.”
The collection—which culled inspiration from everything from the Aesthetic Movement to pre-Raphaelite paintings to Tiffany lamps to Native Americans—sounds crazy, but was a pulled together, patchwork composition of ’60s shapes in prismatic colors. The one and only Agyness (see pics from her birthday party last night here) opened the show in an ultramarine, mixed print layered blouse and pleated skirt; Karen Elson trailed in a gold nouveau velvet lamé dress and an antique fishnet top; and on Sasha P., a faux suede appliqué jacket was draped atop a metallic burnout number… So Sui.
But back to backstage, we wondered if we were in the right place! Where was the Manic Panic, the Mohawks?! Long-time Sui makeup artist Pat McGrath tamed the ’70s sparkplug we saw for spring, and let the designer’s bejeweled flower chokers and headbands have the beauty shot. The girls’ hair was either ironed slick straight or softly waved with extensions, their skin perfect and tinted with pink glow, and lips and lids dotted with glitter.
Unlike the acid streaks of last season, this look is quite easy to pull off…especially now since we’re giving the swag bag beauty products to Sui’s biggest fan! To score Anna Sui’s Dolly Girl Lil’ Starlet eau de toilette and Glitter Eye Color Stick, email
