Press screenings of movies usually involve a lot of weird-looking dudes grunting at everyone else to be quiet. No laughing, no clapping—just silence. So it was a little strange when, at a pre-release viewing of
Safe Haven, I heard a muffled noise coming from the ponytailed man next to me. It slowly grew, until it turned into full-fledged sobbing. And then I realized that he wasn't alone--all around me, writers, editors, and bloggers were reduced to tears.
Which is another way of saying that
Safe Haven is like the second coming of
The Notebook--no surprise, since they were both written by Nicholas Sparks--only with the suspense of a thriller thrown in for good measure. The film, featuring Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel, and Cobie Smulders and directed by Lasse Hallstrom, was released yesterday, so you can experience the emotional rollercoaster for yourself.
But before you do that, you may want to invest in some waterproof mascara. Which is where today's giveaway comes in: We've got both the original
Safe Haven book, plus a $100 gift card to Sephora, so you can load up on all the tear-proof mascara and liner you'd ever need.
