We've been fans of the L.A.-based electro-tinged indie-pop duo
Blondfire since
they first landed on our radar last fall. If you weren't ready to come onboard after listening to their first single, "Where The Kids Are," "Walking With Giants" should do the trick: it's bouncy but has weight, and is the type of track that is just as likely to inspire a dance party as it is a super-chill hangout session.
"The music felt so fun and happy, like being on top of the world," explains Erica Driscoll, who along with her brother Bruce makes up the band. "It's about those fleeting moments when you feel invincible. Which brought us to the 'Giants' concept--feeling larger than life, like nothing could bring you down." She's not kidding--you hear it in lines like "They say the bigger they come the harder they fall / But we're just gonna keep standing tall."
And if any band would know about standing tall, it's CSS. The Brazilian party-core band have been jamming for nearly 10 years now, showing no signs of slowing down. Especially since they just remixed Blondfire's "Walking With Giants." "They took the song and put a more chill, Brazilian spin on it," explains Erica, adding, "We love those guys, so we were pretty excited to hear what they did with our song!"
Indeed, they take the juxtaposition of "dreamy guitars" and "floaty and aggressive keyboard sounds," and bathe them in a sunny, warm sonic glow. Or, as Erica puts it, "if 'Walking With Giants' got a sun tan and put on a bikini, it would sound like this."
Hear what she means below--yup, that's right: we've got the exclusive premiere of CSS's remix of Blondfire's "Walking With Giants." You can hear the original when the L.A. band's upcoming album comes out this spring.
