Straight from the celebrity’s mouth…
Step aside Perez, MySpace’s new Celebrity Channel launched this week with the latest news on your favorite stars and starlets. Celebrities themselves will share secrets about upcoming projects, post never-before-seen pictures, dispute rumors in a public forum, and, most importantly, reach out to their fans. MySpace tosses in some interesting features too, such as Behind the Scene at the MySpace Café, Rising Star profiles, and Celebrity Impact, where the likes of Orlando Bloom discuss world issues. After eating up all we could on Juno’s Ellen Page, Amy Winehouse, and Bijou Phillips (where has she been?!), we talked to Todd Dufour, MySpace's Director Influencer Marketing, to get the rest of the scoop.
How are the celebrities selected to participate; are they invited?
We reach out to celebrities and they reach out to us. It's a really open forum. As you can imagine, we want the most interesting, exclusive content possible. We've featured everyone from Paris Hilton to Tom Hanks and everything in between. This week, the MySpace Café in Park City will be expecting many celebrities to come by and create their pages.
Can fans expect sneak peaks from movie sets and concerts?
We have a Behind the Scenes section where you’ll be able to see everything from an interview with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy discussing their recent film, Atonement, to Matthew McConaughey in the recording studio. Celebrities will also be uploading exclusive personal videos to their MySpace pages.
How will fans be able to interact with their favorite celebrities?
From becoming friends with them to posting personal comments on their pages, MySpace Celebrity allows fans to have a virtual relationship with their favorite celebrity. We also keep fans up to date on all the celebrity news straight from the celebrity’s mouth.
Do celebrities themselves control their pages?
Celebrities have complete and total control over their pages—These pages are an extension of their own life. We believe that this gives celebrities an open forum to speak their mind, promote their projects, and diffuse rumors. For example, last week Audrina [The Hills] blogged about the rumors surrounding her and Lauren Conrad’s friendship.
