Although we're no strangers to Los Angeles, the side of the City of Angels you see in the new Caught A Ghost music video for "Hold Out" is a new one for us. Think old guys playing dominos and desolate roadways straight out of the racing scene in
Grease. And that's exactly what the neo-soul trio was going for. "We wanted to capture some little glimpses of a bygone era that exists all over L.A., and an aimless day when two people explore a city seemed the perfect way," explains singer Tessa Thompson (if she looks familiar, it's because she played Jackie Cook on
Veronica Mars).
They shot the video over the course of three days with Irish director Jamie Delaney, making stops at the Los Angeles River, the downtown Arts District, Echo Park, and a helicopter pad. Yes, a helicopter pad. "We decided in the middle of a night of heavy drinking--in celebration of wrapping another project--that we missed the best light for the helicopter landing scene the first day and that the second run would be good. So people off and on camera were nursing some very extreme hangovers. Epic, in fact," says Thompson. You'd never guess that anyone in the band was battling some major headaches (or that Thompson had to do all of her costume changes from the back of the car), considering just how up beat it all looks.
In fact, the fun is infectious; it's almost impossible to watch the video and not want to join in on a round of dominos are an impromptu dance party. So here's your chance: We've got the exclusive premiere of the "Hold Out" video. Pull on a polka dot dress, turn up the volume, and enjoy.
