1. Defrost in a statement cocoon jacket.
"Everyone from Proenza to Balenciaga sent statement coats down the runway, but my favorite for the holidays are ones that are bright--and cocoon-like, so you don't totally freeze when you're running around in a mini."

2. Just add spots.
"Because really, there's no accessory that doesn't look better with a bit of leopard."

3. All bronze everything.
"Last year it was all about gold, but for this holiday season I'm obsessed with bronze. Haider Ackerman has a mind-blowing jacket in the metallic shade, but if it's a bit out of your price range I recommend Deborah Lippmann's new polishes for winter."

4. Give uncomfortable footwear the boot.
"I'll do a lot of things for fashion, but wearing uncomfortable shoes for hours on end isn't one of them. The great thing about a Chelsea boot is that it looks as good with a pair of skinnies as it does a sheath dress."

5. Reinvent the pleated leather skirt.
"Now that Prada has already given the pleated leather stamp its approval, it seems everyone is putting their spin on it. My favorites hit mid-thigh and evoke that "I dropped out of cheerleading to skateboard after school" look. For winter, add a thick pair of tights."
