SONG PREMIERE: SALLIE FORD & THE SOUND OUTSIDE

Gritty rock'n'roll that you shouldn't apologize for.

If there's anything you could learn from Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside's new track, "They Told Me," it's to never say sorry.

For one thing, there are the lyrics, which on this rock'n'roll track include lines like, "Never have I had / A rational mind, and / Never have I been / Rational inside my gut, my heart, and my head / That's the way they've always been." "It's about not being ashamed for your actions and standing by your gut feelings and emotions," explains the Portland, Oregon group's frontwoman and namesake, Sallie Ford. She adds, "I also feel like women feel a lot of guilt for being emotional and irrational, but that is a human thing and all humans shouldn't have to apologize for that."

But that's not all: The song itself wasn't exactly planned, but it doesn't seem like the band is about to beg pardon for that, either. Remembers Ford, "Sometimes there's a lot of down time when we are recording. I like to take advantage of that time and I often feel very creative--I ended up writing most of ["They Told Me"} in the studio."

It's an ethos we can get behind, especially since the song has that perfect raw, unapologetic edge to it; think lots of growling guitars and simple drum beats backdropping Ford's soulful yelp. And we've got the exclusive premiere of "They Told Me." While you wait for their new album Untamed Beast (out February 19 on Partisan Records), give the sneak peek track a listen below. And definitely don't say sorry if it inspires you to rock out in the middle of the office.
