I land in Austin and immediately notice the strong Texas pride. I also notice how I really cannot escape Cinnabons in the airport. They even have them to-go. i understand your pain, Louis CK.
Everyone here is so nice and friendly. I wander around 'til my room is ready, take a big ol' nap and head to the venue La Zona Rosa. I get there, and there is an enormous line of people waiting to get in. (Some people are even just waiting outside, hoping to be able to hear some of the show!) I think, "This is going to be awesome."
It's time to interview JJAMZ backstage in the dressing room for NYLON TV. I knew most members from growing up in LA and knew the interview would be a lot of fun. (And it was - after the interview, i jumped on all of them for a hug.) Then it was showtime!
Z Berg is always unpredictable onstage, which makes the show fun and organic. After JJAMZ' performance, Penguin Prison went on, and Alex [Greenwald] took me aside and asked if i wanted to see what he had been working on during tour. I could only imagine- all those hours driving in the van. He showed me his drawings, which were so intricate. They work with the black light flashlight that Alex carries in his special tour box. I was super-impressed and could never do anything like that, especially in a moving vehicle!
Soon enough, it was time for Neon Trees. Wow, what a performance they put on; nonstop moving and exuding positive energy to the entire venue. I was so taken and surprised. 100 percent goes into it. I cant wait to catch them in a week.
After the shows finished, we all just sang songs and played with a spinning hexagon made from magnets. Partying like rockstars.....
Until next time!
