Oscar's still bald, but hair finally gets some Academy love!

For 84 years, hair stylists and their iconic work in film have been totally left out at the Academy Awards, while costumes and makeup could go for gold. (We never understood why, so we chalked it up to Oscar being bitter because he's bald.)

But for the 85th annual award show, slated to happen in 2013, the "Best Achievement in Makeup" category has been officially changed to "Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling," meaning The Hunger Games and Rock of Ages could go head to head for the prize.

>>Hair Raiser: Check out our review of Rock of Ages for inspiration

We decided to pay our respects to some of the Best Tressed films that got cut (pun intended) from this category in the gallery below. If you have more hair that you think should have one an Oscar, tell us in the comments section below!

(And if you think Hair & Makeup sharing the podium is categorically wrong, famed stylist Ted Gibson agrees and has a petition you can sign here.)
