Sara Watkins is much cooler than Martha Stewart, but much like the domestic mogul, she seems to be able to do it all. The 31-year old musician has been fiddling professionally since the age of 8, but she also plays guitar, piano, and percussion, and writes and sings much of her own material. (She also plays fiddle and strings for The Decembrists and John Mayer, and recently starred in a Cingular phone commercial, because she's got so much extra time.)
Watkins' latest adventure is Sun Midnight Sun, a solo album that blends rock and folk melodies with growling vocals and small jolts of pop harmonies to sweeten the load. We've listened to this album in the office, in our bedrooms, and during a long car trip, and we can honestly say it works pretty much everywhere.
The same can be said of Watkins herself - her summer tour hits eighteen states, and you've still got about a month to catch her live. (Or watch the YouTube video below...)
