The Metropolitan Museum enters our realm with
blog.mode: addressing fashion, currently on display at the Costume Institute. Sponsored by Manolo Blahnik, the interactive exhibit explores the role of the ubiquitous blog and the way in which technology and fashion have become intertwined allowing fashion critique, formerly the domain of editors and designers, to fall into the hands of the public. The collection consists of 65 costumes and accessories that have been accumulated over the past seven years, from 18th-century garb to present-day duds. Structured in a chronological order, anchored on one end by a 1730s British menswear suit staple and on the other by modern gowns by Dior and Nina Ricci. Azzedine Alaïa, Chanel, Helmut Lang, Alexander McQueen, and Vivienne Westwood are also among the note-worthy designers, however, what we really love about this exhibition is its “blog bar.” Set up inside the gallery and, of course, online too, visitors are encouraged to weigh in on the exhibit’s pieces. When it comes to fashion, we’ve all got a lot to say; now's
your chance!
