THE INSIDERS: NYLON!
Our editors dish on the best of 2007.
-
WHAT WAS THE BEST PARTY OF 2007?
Fiorella Valdesolo, Beauty Director: The NYLON music issue party at Irving Plaza was a wicked good time.
Jared Flint, Mens Market Editor:
Justice & Daft Punk after parties = bananas.
WHAT WAS THE BEST MYSPACE CITY TO VISIT?
Andrea Cusick, Associate Editor:
Rollin' with the 'Holmies (in Stockholm for the MySpace issue) was probably the most exciting trip of 2007. The Scandinavians have a design sensibility that's instantly recognizable—more fashion, art, and music talent than we could fit in one issue, and the parties were pretty good too.
Fiorella: Paris! French rock ‘n’ roll rules.
WHAT WAS THE BEST NYLON TV EPISODE?
Fiorella: The zombie makeup courtesy of Make Up For Ever in the Sam Champion music video was amazing.
Rebecca Rodriguez, Nylon TV Assistant Producer:
Zach Condon was our best interview. He set the bar for what we would hope our future interviews with music artists will be like. He was humble, very hilarious, and to be serenaded by such a young, eloquent, intelligent artist…it doesn't get much better than that.
Jared:
Any one where a tall red head doesn't make a goofy appearance.
WHAT WAS THE CRAZIEST PRODUCT YOU WERE PITCHED THIS YEAR?
Fiorella: A whoopie cushion invitation to the launch event of Subtle Butt, a new product that masks the odor of farts. I shit you not!
AND THE COOLEST?
Jared: Hard to remember, but right now I'm loving the Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren bow ties and Marc Jacobs trench coats we have in. Also this retainer necklace made by this Brooklyn furniture and jewelry designer, Kiel Mead. He molded it from his sister’s or brother’s or something like that. Plus it comes in a real retainer case.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH SPOT THIS YEAR?
Fiorella: Alidoro on Sullivan Street makes the tastiest Italian sandwiches…nothing puts a smile on my face like a pile of prosciutto.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE NYLON FEATURE?
Kate Williams, Senior Editor: The highlight of my year was getting to interview Wu-Tang because hip-hop will always be my favorite type of music, and getting to talk to people who have been so influential in shaping an entire genre of music was pretty amazing. I interviewed Gza over the course of a three-hour dinner (we drank champagne), and at times, he would start rapping. It was one of those times where you just wonder what you did to get where you are—I felt insanely lucky.
Fiorella: I would have to say the White Stripes because I am a huge fan of their music and their ability to color coordinate.
WHO IS NYLON'S BEST-DRESSED INTERN?
Jared: Easy: Brownie Points, a.k.a. Brownstone, a.k.a. Brownie P. Chris Brown and his nautical Dickens look kills it.
WHAT WAS THE BEST FASHION MOMENT OF 2007?
Jared: Easy, Tucker Carlson.
