There’s something to be said for names you know and trust. Take Marriott: Even before you drop your credit card at the concierge, you can guarantee a good night’s sleep, to say the least. But there’s also something to be said for crash pads that cater to us, ahem, the young and hip! And hotelier David Siguaw has been paying attention. The Director of Sales & Marketing at Marina del Rey Marriott in Venice Beach recently revamped the nearly 400-room hotel—already a hot spot for its scene overlooking the bay, penthouse ballroom, and rooftop helicopter landing pad—to have more of a boutique feel by opening Glow. The open-air lounge features black-tented cabanas, fire pits, chic cocktails, and local D.J.s spinning downbeat tempos. We caught up with Siguaw to find out more.
How is the newly revamped Marina del Rey Marriott distinctive from other Marriott hotels, and how does it still uphold Marriott's good reputation?Unlike any other Marriott, we are delivering the benefits of indulging in nightlife, dining, entertainment, and ocean activities without the pretentious Hollywood attitude. Customers experience the sophistication of a premiere social facility and the compliments of one of the country's hottest hotel nightspots. The hip and upscale environment has escalated the image of the hotel to that of a desired destination in L.A.; as ‘not just a place to stay, but a place to be.’
What aesthetic were you going for in the new "boutique" look? The Marriott guest expectations are exceeded through our ongoing five sense experience strategy: contemporary design to please the eye, distinctive scent that linger memories, music to sooth the most discerned guest, food and beverage libation to please every palate, and smooth textures to satisfy the sense of touch.
What kind of customer do you hope Glow will attract, and what are some of Glow’s highlights that will accomplish this? The Gen X and Y customer from all business segments. Privacy, seclusion, pampering service, fire pits, waterfalls, cozy cabanas… The venue arouses the human senses.
