When we discovered Macaron Lip Gloss last month, we didn't realize it was just the beginning of a major fashion trend.  And although the French cookies first became popular during the Renaissance (and later had a starring role in Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette), they're experiencing a revival from Asos, Etsy, and Modcloth.

We suspect the macaron trend is partly because people are sick of last season's status sweet, The Cupcake - but it's also because the macaron's pastel color palette is very on trend for Spring 2012, and with designers’ spring collections rapidly hitting stores (yes we know it is still freezing here in New York), these accessories actually pair nicely with feminine dresses and floral prints.

Our top macaron-shaped picks include the Portable Patisserie Ring from Etsy, and the locket necklace from ASOS.  Because if you’re going to wear plastic food around your neck, you might as well make sure it’s as cute as possible.
