Meet the Tuxedo Manicure, by YSL.
In February, the style blog Live For Fashion posted a tutorial on black-on-black nails. Writer Melissa Reyes gave herself a French manicure using a glossy black base and a matte black tip, and suddenly the blogosphere exploded: much like Zoe Pocock's "Louboutin manicure," everyone went a little insane for the look - at least online.
Now Yves Saint Laurent takes the black-on-black nail art into holiday territory, introducing their own version (okay, it's basically the same version), called The Tuxedo Manicure. Meant to evoke the subtle, lush textures of black silk on black wool, the beauty look - dubbed "manicure couture" - bundles two YSL nail lacquers together in one mega-fashion prize pack. (The black matte and the black gloss, combined, cost $30.)
You can take inspiration from their latest ad campaign, and follow along with Live for Fashion's tutorial to perfect your tips. And once you've got it, you can start using other matte / glossy monochromes - purple would be gorgeous, for instance - to push the trend through Spring.

This isn't new, people who love nail polish trends have been doing since matte polish popped back on the scene.
You can get the same look easier (and cheaper) with Essie Matte About You top coat, or if you aren't as dexterous use a matte black and slick the tips with a shiny top coat. If you really wanna see some cool new things check out alllaqueredup nail blog or The Daily Nail.

Faran never claimed the trend was new, she said back in February the trend came about and YSL is making polish for the new season. If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything...I liked the post very much I had never seen this trend and actually really like it! def going to try this this season!! thanks Faran and NYLON! :)
