There's so much to love about Sleepy Hollow, the exquisitely creepy film that Tim Burton debuted in 1999. Obviously, Johnny Depp racing through town on a black horse is a good start, but themes like supernatural energy, love in survival mode, and death's rightful place in nature make it more than just a gore-fest. And much like Helena Bonham Carter's costumes in Burton's later work, Sweeney Todd, the apart-at-the-seams Victorian outfits that Christina Ricci wears during the film are sexy, inspiring, and a little bit inflicting.
You can get the film this week on iTunes for $5, and play it during your Halloween party, or while you're trying to master a dainty hair-and-makeup take on the goth look. And if you'd prefer your scary movies with more "ick" and less "oh my gosh, this cinematography is amazing," that's okay - I Know What You Did Last Summer and Last House on the Left are also $5 this week, along with zombie movies that are so cannibalistic, we can't even watch their trailers. --FARAN KRENTCIL

I'm sorry, but this is not a good film. There are really excellent moments a la Christina and Johnny and so many other amazing supporting actors (CHRISTOPHER WALKEN!), but as a film, it just doesn't flow. Too much going on, but that does make it interesting. I watch it every Halloween :)
