Read Lindsay Lohan's foreword in the new Marilyn Monroe book!

Today marks the release of Marilyn: Intimate Exposures, the new coffee table book documenting Marilyn Monroe's life through the lens of famed photographer Bernard of Hollywood. The man behind that iconic image of Monroe in the billowing white dress, Bernard showcases hundreds of never-before-seen images of the actress. What's even more exciting about the book, though, is that Lindsay Lohan wrote the foreword. Read an excerpt of her introduction below:

I was twelve and watching the film “Niagara” over and over again when I was shooting The Parent Trap. I didn’t refer to it as film noir then. I just thought it was dark and full of emotion. Marilyn was the beautiful bad girl in that tight, rose-colored dress. The character she played was strong and taking control, which I unconsciously knew at that young age was a necessary quality for a woman. I had seen what my mother, whom I love, had gone through with my father. She, I and my brother Michael, my sister Aliana, and my youngest brother Dakota were in a constant state of uncertainty. I would have to put myself between him and my siblings.

I can understand the photographer Bernard of Hollywood’s statement, “it took a superhuman effort to be Marilyn.” I identify. Without any real family to come home to and no education, Marilyn managed to have her dream. The dream of a little girl looking out of an orphanage window at the RKO sign, and promising herself, “There must be thousands of girls sitting alone like me, dreaming of becoming a movie star. But I’m not going to worry about them. I’m dreaming the hardest.”

People in their mind have created who I am and act as if there is no real person inside of me. Just like Marilyn, who created the blond sex goddess on camera…. Marilyn never wanted to be a celebrity. Neither do I. I started working in commercials, when I was three. I always wanted to be in great films. I had always thought that movie stars were in films that would last forever in your mind. But now the films don’t. I don’t want to be remembered as someone who just wanted to be photographed, who goes out at night ,and gets in trouble. Look, I never had a normal high school life. I was home schooled for two years, never had a high school prom or went to college. I was just sort of acting out that period of time I never had, and I made some bad choices. So all the tabloids, just like Marilyn, keep harping on my mistakes. Heath Ledger once said to me, “It’s build you up to knock you down and that’s all it is. And you just have to see if you can stand through it.”

Marilyn aid she had no foundation. But she said she was really working on it. I’ve been trying to do the same thing. But sometimes a relationship doesn’t work out like you’d hoped. The tabloids don’t give you a chance. They don’t want to know who you are inside. If everything’s OK with you, who wants to hear about it? I believe in myself and I’m a good actress.

It took time for Marilyn to be taken seriously as an actress. She risked everything and broke her contract with FOX Studios, demanded more money, approval of directors, better scripts, more respect ,and formed Marilyn Monroe Productions. That was really empowering for a woman in the ‘50s. Marilyn was not a victim. She took control. And we remember her, 50 years later, for her “great films.”

Linsey Lohan and Marlyn Monroe are two very different people, obviously. I like that Lohan understood the concept of women and strength, but nothing she's done would show it. I'm really disappointed by the comparison.

It seems like Lindsey has used this as an oppertunity to clear her own name, which I think is a bit cheeky. Considering that Marilyn is her idol; she didn't really write much about her or why she inspires her.

I agree with Leni and Taylor. I mean sure Marilyn inspired tons of women. As in Madonna, Lady GaGa, and even Christina Aguilera. She made an image, she was an icon.. everyone tries to imitate her look. But, no one is quite like her. I think instead of tring to compare yourself to her, tell more about what made her stand out from the rest for you. Not just because she was a famous actress in the '50's.

All Lindsay Lohan is doing is talking about herself ... it just doesn't even make any sense as a forward to a book about Marilyn Monroe. Also it is written like an awkward 16 year old wrote it..

If Lindsay was like Marilyn, she would be striving to work at her craft not sitting front and center at dubious fashion shows. If Lindsay was like Marilyn she'd have sought out psychotherapy to better understand her demons and she would be surrounding herself with intelligent and talented thinkers not eurotrash designers and professional perverts like Terry Richardson.

No! Why? So self indulgent and embarrassing. As a devout Marilyn fan, this is such a puff piece. Lindsay is nothing like Marilyn, looks nothing like Marilyn and it's just wrong for her to even be considered for foreword-writing. Publicity, I guess. So embarrassing for all concerned - and so badly written!

This piece by Lindsay is really embarrassing for not only her but possibly for Nylon as well. It's embarrassing for Lindsay because as previous posters wrote it's self-indulgent and a grammatical disaster. A poor education is an excuse for poor grammar but not for the foreword to not go through an editor. Now if the grammatical mistakes (misplaced commas and misspellings) aren't Lindsay's but instead are the result of poor transcribing, then Nylon, that's embarrassing. I love the mag, I love Nylon and I actually do have a soft spot for Lohan. However, shoddy journalism and self-indulgent publicity stunts are not articles I want to read.

totally agree. This is a completely self-centered /self-important piece of mediocrity. Nothing to do with MM, not really. It is a little soapbox for this girl. While I don't dislike Lindsay, opening a book about Marilyn with this is pretty darn distasteful.

That had nothing to do with Marilyn. That was Ms. Lohan feeling sorry for herself and attempting to defend her poor life choices. I am really embarassed for her.

i actually love the idea of the coffee table book because it's about marilyn monroe, but i must say i am not very impressed by the lack of professionalism or blatant self-promotion that apparently is lindsay lohan... as a self proclaimed marilyn monroe fan she should have owned this moment and gave proper respect to an icon... this just seems so sloppy lol :(

I'm all for Linsay Lohan . She's just misunderstood .. Unfortunately, she didn't have a regular life or childhood and resulted to many bad things but that happens to 99% of us regular humans atleast once in our lifetimes. The only difference is that her life was completely public! So I suggest to stop hating and try to put yourself in her shoes. Marilyn is an icon but she did lots of drugs and screwed many people including the president at the time and wasn't exploited much for it because unlike nowadays with all the technology and paprazzi being everywhere and extremely advanced, she got away with it. Unlike Lindsay .... So yeah.. Buy the book :)

Worst foreward to a book ever!! Lohan needs to shut up & go away already. Your career is over, your looks are shot, nobody will insure you on a project. Go away from the limelight, get cleaned up ,work on yourself & get an education. Then resurface 20 years down the line.

this is just really disappointing... the foreword sounds like there was no thought given to it, like this was the rough draft or something. I feel like seeing as Marilyn is Lindsay's idol, she should be able to write a well thought out and put together piece without making it sound so unprofessional.

DAMN lindsay is delusional all she is doing is a rather PATHETIC attempt to try to convince the world that she is so similar to marilyn by comparing herself to her on every level even though lindsays claims are empty b.s. seriously lindsays essay is a joke and i feel so embarrased by lindsays whiny desperate plea of trying to make it look like she is the next mailyn. honey needs to sober up and wake up stop trying to impersonate a dead actress and be yourself. as for your ISSUES of your life that are SO SIMILAR to marilyns im sure its minimal compared to the other real problems going on like he 30000 children who will go to bed tonite and not wake up cuz of starvation who have to take care of many other kids like themselves.lindsay lohan is not marilyn monroe we all know that and she will never come close cuz she is shallow and is only interested in pimping herself out there as marilyn which is getting old. i totally agree with emari. l is self indulgent delusional has been who needs to find a new way of promoting her career

OMG,wow didn't realize how awful people felt abt Lindsey Lohan. Well let me state the basics, Lindsey is a damn good actress, just like she says. and no body STILL, hasn't topped her n no ONE will! She's has patened her name on the "TEEN ACTRESS QUEEN". I mean I thought "Mean Girls" showed that, no one can stop her she's a beast! yea u all tlk abt her, bt who can u name has done it better than her, NO not emma stone, not amanda bynes, hilary duff, kristen stewart, leighton meester, raven a symone, she fuckin put her name on that thing! n NO ONE IS GOING TO TAKE IT BACK! Lindsey Lohan fuckin did it! she fuckin show the world who she was,n that was a "damn good actress", no type of bad publicity, paparazzi, or her bad habits n acting out is going to change that. It's just like Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson,Robert effin deniro, denzel, beyonce, jay-z, tupac, these people r stars, they have the gift, n no newbie, or public hate is going to change that. With that pale skin, bright red freckles, and n blazing red hair( did u notice she was the one who srted it first now tht ervyone has it she doesn't), and "on camera spark", LINDSEY LOHAN has effin showed us that HELL YEAH n I quote that she is a " damn good actress", and that just it Folks! ~_^
