ELIZABETH OLSEN X NYLON

The star of "Martha Marcy May Marlene" is our October cover girl!

If you don't know Elizabeth Olsen yet, give it a month or two.  The 22-year-old actress has five movies in the can, including the Sundance breakout Martha Marcy May Marlene, which hits commercial theaters this October.  With Oscar buzz already brewing - and future roles opposite Zac Efron, Catherine Keener, and Dakota Fanning on the way - we anoint the California native with her very first (but probably not last) NYLON cover.  (And PS: if you think she bears a striking resemblance to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen because she is, indeed, their little sister.)  Here's more about Lizzie:

Full Name:
Elizabeth Chase Olsen

Birthdate:
February 16, 1989

Alma Mater:
Tisch School of the Arts at New York University

Fallback Plan:
Elizabeth got her New York State real estate license in 2008; it has since expired.

Vehicle:
A used Range Rover inherited from her older sister, Mary-Kate, in 2004.

Dessert:
Vanilla frozen yogurt with cinnamon and almonds.

On starting her career in the theater:
"I just always thought that theater was different from being an actor in Hollywood for some reason.  It was like this safe place where people aren't harassed.  But I was apprehensive because I saw how brutal people can be when other people put themselves out there."

On growing up with celebrity sisters:
"I have to attribute the way I have always looked at [work] to my father, because he was a really good influence on us.  It was always very important to him that his daughters be financially independent.  He wanted us to know that we could take care of ourselves, because he never liked the idea of us needing a man.  And witnessing how my sisters can take care of themselves financially was a great model to have.  I consider myself lucky to have such a normal family."

I don’t usually forget to check who the next Covergirl is; but this was a total surprise. Clicking on the nylon page and have Elizabeth Olsen with caption *it girl* - I 100% agree; she is everything in Hollywood right now. Wicked NYLON (if I could I would give 10 stars) xD

Actually, I think that I am going to go out and purchase this magazine. I want to know more. her Dad is amazing. Fathers! Please raise your daughters to be financially independent! and society, Can we PLEASE get over the idea that women need a man, and don't need jobs or any way to think and support themselves. We love education, and go to college to get jobs so that we can support ourselves, but also do and find something that we love in life. thank you! :)

Your choice in cover model proves my point yet again. While Elizabeth Olsen seems to be on the track to becoming one of Hollywood's most viable and talented actors she still lacks the extensive resume and experience many other artists and actresses have to offer. And unfortunately Nylon demonstrates time and time again their lack of concern in representing the diversity of their audience with their decision of cover girl. Santigold, Zoe Kravitz, Yaya Dacosta, Jamie Chung, Frida Pinto and VV Brown are all great acts to consider for future covers. I just keep hoping to see a reason to renew my subscription again.

I'm pretty sure she's saying "prune".

@gabbie surely you saw Jamie Chung on the COVER OF NYLON THIS MAY! HELLOOOOO. And how can you say Yaya DaCosta should be on the cover but EO shouldn't because of her "lack of extensive resume"? Please. She had 3 lines in a good movie and got naked for it. That's hardly groundbreaking. I think instead of diversity for diversity's sake we should celebrate talent. This girl is TALENTED. the end.

fantastic choice of Elizabeth Olsen! she seems so down to earth and passionate about her art-- not to mention gorgeous in a refreshingly natural way. I rarely ever buy Nylon but I am going to subscribe now because I am so impressed with the interview and the selection to put her on the cover! Go elizabeth!

Nylon always does a great job of introducing the up-and-comers. Great cover girl pick. EO is gorgeous. Maybe it's just the styling and make-up of this shoot, but to me she has a real 70's look, a bit of a Farrah Fawcett/Jane Fonda vibe. And I love that Brixton hat! Tried that on yesterday, so cute! Definitely an inspiring and admirable young lady. I can't wait to see Martha Marcy May Marlene and anything else she has coming up!

This is one of the reasons I have goe off Nylon (it started when you made Peaches Geldof a columnist and put Paris Hilton on the cover). As much as I love Elizabeth Olsen she has not earnt the cover. Her movies havent even been released yet which means she only has the cover for her famous last name.
