LONDON FASHION WEEK: AMANDA WAKELEY
A collection worthy of the Bag Snob.
Even if it's hard for American girls to get their hands on British clothes, they can usually score their gateway drug equivalent - the handbag.
Luella broke into the US market with her famous Gisele tote; Mulberry became a household name (at least in houses with 14-35 year olds) with The Alexa satchel, and David David made a duffel tote for the technicolor masses.
Now Amanda Wakeley joins the line with her Spring 2012 collection, which boasts a cache of double-buckle clutches and totes that are both smart and slightly oversize. They'll be a good choice for girls who want something stylish but grown-up, and rare but easy to pair with skinny jeans and a giant sweater.
The rest of the collection was seeped with candy apple red stripes, black and white leaf prints, and mustard yellow silk. Maybe you can smuggle some of it into the States via those big, gorgeous bags - they'll definitely be the first things to hit our shores...
