You may have moved to Brooklyn’s tree-lined streets to escape the stifling sounds and smells of Manhattan, but if you’re like most Brooklynites, you still have to curse a train that drags you back to the city each morning. And while you might not be able to do much about that commute, with a quick spritz of Eau de Brooklyn you can at least pretend like you’ve never left the borough. The gentle tea-bergamot scent began as little project in the Oribe family kitchen. Inspired by their Boerum Hill neighborhood’s sights and scenes, the two young kids, their mom, and neurologist father began experimenting with soap making and scent mixing. Their experiments soon developed into a full-scale side-project, with 8-year-old Nicholas helping perfect the scent and 10-year-old Catalina designing the packaging. The tiny family perfumerie now produces olive oil and shea butter soaps and eau de perfume sprays for 20 boutiques in its namesake borough and will add a home fragrance and body cream in the coming months—to help you feel at home no matter how far from it you travel.
