Other magazines declare that leopard print is "the new neutral," but not us. Yeah, it's a muted color, but the print is so striking, it transforms just about any outfit or accessory into something with retro attitude - one step too far into lion territory, and you're one of Don Draper's forgotten
Mad Men conquests, circa 1964.
Of course, there are ways around this. You can pair your leopard print with a torn tee and wrinkled jeans, like Alison Mosshart did in our June / July issue. Or you can keep your makeup
very minimal to go for the "I don't care, I was born stylish" vibe.
M.A.C thinks that's the best way to go, and they've introduced a Fall makeup range to match. It's called Leopard Luxe, and it was inspired by - and designed to coordinate with - the influx of leopard print in women's fashion.
We're especially charmed by the lip colors, which are opaque and creamy, and come in shades of blood red ("The Prowl") and yellowy ocher ("Out Minxed"), which works beautifully when paired with black liquid eyeliner and dark shadow. Our only wish? That they had a pale, chalky pink in the collection. That would really make us pounce.
