really wish tennessee thomas would have spoken. and its almost like a totally different band with all 3 girls gone. :(

They're music isn't really that good, which I'm surprised about because Mark Ronson produced it. And before anyone can say "well you probably don't listen to their kind of genre", I love alot of music from the 60s. Particularly Motown (The Supremes, The Shirelles, Martha & the Vandellas, The Ronettes The Chiffons, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, etc. ) most of girl bands from the 60s aswell. If you think they sound like a good 60s band, then please I urge you to listen to some of the bands I've listed, and see how really mediocre The Like sound. The only thing good about them is their look. They're not even as good as The Shangri-las.

I love their interviews :) And @MAYBEKARA: Are you sure you know who Tennessee is? Because Tennessee and Z are the ones who are talking all the time.

@Jenny I love the artists you mentioned and I still think The Like are fantastic. It's a matter of personal taste, really.

Release Me is the best album to be released in quite some time. It's amazing, actually. Totally diggin' it. love it, love it, love it.

Two of the original girls are still in the band. Anyway, not a fan of this kind of music, which sucks since everyone seems to be doing it nowdays, but this album is still awesome! ;)

Roxy

I have to agree with Jenny. I love the bands you've mentioned, and the Like are no where near them. I find it funny, how when they first came out into the music scene, they never mentioned liking The Supremes or Shirelles before. Then all of a sudden, "hey this motown thing is getting pretty popular again. Let's jump on the bandwagon." But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure they knew about Irma Thomas, The Crystals, The Dixie Cups, Doris Troy, The Murmaids, The Ad Libs, etc. I guess they didn't want to make that kind of music the first time.

Oh gosh, no. If the Like played this kind of music in the 60s. They'd never get a record deal. They're nowhere close to The Shangri-las, not even Liz Brady or Clothilde. I'll give them a 1 for "at least an attempt."

Bliss

07/19/2010

I literally grew up on 60s music like some of you here, and have to agree that this was an okay attempt. I think people who've never really grew up on the stuff but like it still, will like The Like. But people who were literally bred with stuff like the temptations and Smokey Robinson will kind of detest this album.

@ Neil if you seriously think this is one of the best albums to come out in some time, I'm sorry but you're just not looking. "Release Me" is okay. Not grand or great. Beach House just released a album a couple of months ago, as well as Bombay Bicycle Club. There's Ishi and Fergus & Geronimo. Plus, HELLO, The Black Keys.

Lady Gaga

07/19/2010

I'm giving the Like an extra-heart because Lady Gaga is in your band. I love you Stefani Germanotta.

@Jenny

07/19/2010

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who LUVS the Temptations. I think they even had more hits than the Beatles. I swear everyone at my school would the whole lyrics to My Girl, but if a beatles song came on... Anywho as for the LikeL it was a good try at a 60s pop album. If I had to recommend a really good 60s girl band, listen to Les Calamites.

Hmm...

07/19/2010

hmmm... I was excited that I heard the Like were making kind of a 60s inspired album, but it really doesn't sound that good. It seems like they care more about their appearance then the music itself. Lady Gaga looks so bored there.

Sam

07/19/2010

Not so great. But good. If you want a really good band, listen to Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. So good. @Neil Ever heard of the XX?

George

07/19/2010

I've heard better bands, make good attempts at going sixties. They're called The Fabulettes. The Like are nothing but image. That's all they care about.

Snooze

07/19/2010

I can see why Charlotte Froom left. This music could be alot better. Did Mark Ronson seriously produce this?

Elsie

07/19/2010

The Like are going for a cross between the Animals, the Beatles, the Zombies (British invasion type bands) and Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Dixie Cups, etc (60s girl group)...and I think they nailed it. The lyrics and music have a modern twist. They aren't looking to be EXACTLY like a 60s girl group. Just inspired by. And for those who don't believe the Like actually liked this music prior to determining their concept for the album...the members of the Like have an immensely varied taste in music. Like seriously. Z used to listen to Norwegian metal.

Kev

07/19/2010

Eh... who cares? Why are there so many bands floating around right now that can't even reach the level of "one hit wonder"??

aldo

07/19/2010

Jenny, it's not like they sound like those bands, it's that those band influenced them. Also, unlike most of the bands you named, The Like writes their songs and they play the instruments AND sing, I urge you to take a breath and take another listen.

aldo

07/19/2010

Roxy, What bandwagon?? whose doing anything Release Me? Their first album was done when the were like 16 years old. They grow, they evolve.

Neil

07/20/2010

@Elsie-you hit the nail on the head. they are inspired by 60's girls groups. and @jenny the The Supremes, The Shirelles aren't rock and roll. can't compare mo-town to British 60's inspired rock

April

07/20/2010

I love their style and their new album! I don't know what some of you fools are talking about.

Rosario

07/20/2010

If you guys think this is 60s british rock n roll, then the whole world is lost.

June245

07/20/2010

@Aldo Hello where have you been, ever heard of Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, etc. they've been bringing back the 60s genre for a while. Nothing but image.

Lenny

07/20/2010

Their music sounds like something that Disney produced. Something I would find off of my little sisters Disneymania cd. If I hadn't looked at this video I would've thought this was Aly & Aj.

Strop

07/20/2010

The people who think that this is good 60s-inspired music. Obviously haven't heard good 60s or 60s-inspired music. I agree with Lenny, this sounds like disney shit. If the like didn't dress is their cool 60's get up, and some disney star sang this song. Then no one would be giving them the 4 star rating their giving right now. Music should be about quality not looks.

DIANA ROSS

07/20/2010

The Like are the next big thing.

Julie

07/20/2010

My problem with the Like, is that their songs always miss something. Their songs don't leave impressions. Les Calemites, they write and play their own music aswell.

FLORENCE BALLARD

07/20/2010

The Like are not the next big thing.

Jakesy

07/21/2010

Now this is what makes me mad, The Likes new sound is not rock n roll, it's clearly 60s pop. Just because there's a guitar and a drum, doesn't mean it's rock. Which means that the Like can in fact be compared to Motown, since Motown back in the 60s was also considered pop seeing their fair share of hits. I'm giving the Like a one because they at least play their instruments.

Is it physically impossible for Z to look directly at a camera when she is having her photo taken? Lame. Other than that, I properly love this band. And Tennessee Thomas is actually the cutest being on this PLANET. X

i support any girls that make music and are out there...but sighh...this is the same stuff always in nylon...LA BANDS..blah blah blah... check out girl fronted bands like JJCNV, THE PODS, who are pretty badass live in az or from the underground scenes of different cities from east to west......new jerseys SCREAMING FEMALES guitarist is saweet..... for there are hundreds of girl type bands out there that are so much more raw and real and entertaining.

Lucila

07/23/2010

I liked them a lot better when it was just the three girls, now it's just a bit annoying. They USED TO BE the only complete girl band from today I used to like.. such a shame.

Mary

07/24/2010

Their music is okay, but it seems rather toothless.

stella

07/27/2010

i completely love them though

@maybekara Only Charlotte left.

marc

god is this band a joke? i feel bad for these girls..how ridiculous ther are!

amber

08/19/2010

I don't get the comment "If the Like played this kind of music in the 60s. They'd never get a record deal" They don't play in the 60s.. So why would that matter? It's not the best album ever, but I like it.
