RIDE IT OUT

RIDE IT OUT

Art meets the street with these limited-edition bikes.

Bicycles have long been a favorite summer fashion accessory (Paul Frank, Urban Outfitters, and Acne have all expressed their love for the two-wheeler with recent collaborations.)

Now, a new crop of international designers from brands like Kenzo, Antik Batik, and Swarovski  have customized Peugeot's classically cool "fixed gear" bikes to auction off for charity.

It's impossible to pick our favorite, since each one is so incredibly unique. They're definitely cute, like Agatha Ruiz de la Prada's heart motif. They're also works of art in themselves, like Ylan Anoufa's bottle-cap covered creation.

The 12 bikes will be auctioned off in September in Paris with proceeds benefiting ACT Responsible, a charity that promotes environmental and social causes.

Even if a one-of-a-kind bicycle isn't in our budget, here's perfect D.I.Y. inspiration if we ever saw one. We're tempted whip out the paintbrushes and recreate the art ourselves.

the "bike with the heart in the middle" has some serious chain tension problems. you would probably die riding that thing.

These are very very very cute bikes. I wish you would do a read through before you post things though, Nylon. If I had a dollar for every missing word and spelling mistake I found on your website, I may actually be able to afford one of these bikes.

If anything, the only cute one is the kid robot colored one with flower rims. But in general, these most likely are shitty road bikes with "FANCY" paint jobs, and over priced accessories just like everything else in this magazine " CULTURE " . Yay! Bike revolution, let's see how long this TREND lasts.

This is the most disgusting act of unnecessary assault done to bikes. The newest installation of horrible bike aesthetics. Epic fail.

These bikes are obviously not for everyday riding with the exception of the Heart one in my opinion. It's quite evident that the main theme of the article is about the art and design installed into something one would not expect. I do not recall art being "assault" and they are being auctioned for charity so it is common sense that they would have "fancy paint jobs and overpriced accessories' because how can a charity make money off of anything average? Also, this is a magazine partially about trends so what would you expect being here? The mag has been around long enough for people to know what it is about and what is in it so if if everything is too overpriced for you, go read something with a different aesthetic more geared to your wallet if thats what it is about for you. I have ridden for years, before fixed gears and road bikes became a trend and when the novelty wears off, all the people complaining (if you are even a rider and have been like myself) can all remain riding and feel they have some sort of special integrity or be a hypocrite and jump on some other bandwagon and complain some more.
