APPLY YOURSELF

APPLY YOURSELF

Because the basic t-shirt is so boring.

One way to make clothes really your own? Create them yourself.

L.A.-based company Apliiq makes the process easy for us non-designers by producing customizable basic t-shirts, dresses, hoodies, and more. Each item of clothing can be personalized down to the color, fabric and pattern.

The best part is that each piece is completely sustainable. Most of the base garments are from American Apparel, so they're produced locally, and the fabric swatches are collected from all over the world.

Apliiq says its purpose is to "upcycle" rather than "recycle," which means they add value to old fabrics by transforming them into cool new products. And, since they're constantly searching for new patterns, the selection is always changing and each item is totally unique.

An upgrade from the plain white tee, indeed.

It's a great idea, but some of it looks sort of cheap and not very well tailored. Maybe that's just me.

Apliiq is awesome, and having worn the product first hand, I know it is great quality... I customized my own grey vneck shirt with a red and white pocket and patches. Love it.

This idea I would give 4 1/2 stars.... It seems so simple and easy. Like the tank with the pocket on the back.. Then the colors and patterns that are used are great and i feel very EYE popping 8) ... The idea of not "recycle" ,but "upcycle" its great to know that old wonderful patterns are not just being used again; they are being used to enhance a "plain t" into something eye popping.... 8)!!!

Great idea, BUT I agree with Caroline, they look cheap and very craft table at the church. In other words, amature hour.

Amateur hour or not, starting any business venture begins with a learning curve. These aren't major fashion industry people; they're regular guys trying to bring a new and positive idea to the market. Give 'em time and the quality will improve.
