DOUBLE EXPOSURE

DOUBLE EXPOSURE

Cory Kennedy and Taylor Warren have grabbed their 15 minutes. What will they do next?

TAYLOR WARREN
“L.A. just seems really eager compared to New York. And I’m not that eager. People even think I’m kind of a bitch,” she admits, “because I don’t go out of my way to make sure they like me.” Despite what Warren says, people do like her. She’s recently been shot by Terry Richardson (for the Uniqlo campaign) and the art photographer Ryan McGinley, and she has many, many fans, most of whom are young girls obsessed with her style, although she also has her fair share of unwanted attention and stalkers...

CORY KENNEDY
While Kennedy definitely sticks out in a crowd (in a good way), she has recently stopped partying as much. “I used to go to Hyde, Teddy’s, all those places, but now I’m over it,” she continues, in a jaded voice. “It was fun and exciting at the time, and the networking aspect was very good, but these days I’m mostly staying in at night.” This is something her parents, no doubt, must find comforting—when the popularity of Kennedy’s blog became apparent to them, they were upset, a situation not helped by the fact that, shortly thereafter, she ended up on the cover of the Los Angeles Times Magazine, the subject of a story about teenage fame and the Internet...

I don't know, but aren't all of us already tired and over the whole cory kennedy thing? yeah yeah, you dress different, but it shouldn't make you an instant star. Walk down the street and you'll see someone just as intriguing. its pretty sad you put her on your cover. I thought nylon would know better. I guees not.

i have given this two hearts because it was shot by less common. it would have had one otherwise. so i guess corey is "too cool for school?" i hope she has ideas in her head to back that up. school is soooooo boooooooring, omg. you guys. seriously. can you take my photo again? 4-realz.

get over it, just because you're not famous doesn't mean you have to bash cory. i like her originality and theres nothing wrong with her getting publicity for it

London

09/18/2007

False fame and her arrogant attitude isnt doing her any favours. Her style compared to east london and most of the people i know, is way behind in all fairness, she is doing what most girls do here on a regular basis. getarealjob? And Nylon need to start covering interesting things, instead of underage party girls. Matt taking these photos is the only good thing. And trust me this is not a jealous person speaking, i am 23 and male i am over that, and i am doing well enough as a published artist, but seriously, cover something with some depth yeh?

at first i was interested about her, but she doesn't have job. i'm over it. i agree with what everyone else says. this is another paris hilton in the fame aspect. i dislike people that are famous for nothing. if she has such good style, & wants people to see it than she should have been a designer. i would honestly prefer to see britney on the cover. at least she made a career for herself. i'm starting to get tired of nylon for following the hipster crowd and encouraging people that are "dumb". can't you show someone that is leading an interesting life.

I love you dearly, but I was really getting tired of people like Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie being on your cover. Thank goodness this issue has no one trying to make a comeback! What has really been bothering me for awhile is the fact that you have mentioned a few times in your issues is that starlets like Kirsten Dunst, Evan Rachel Wood, and Christina Ricci embody what you consider to be a Nylon girl. Yes, but what the hell is a Nylon girl now? Is she a creative powerhouse or a starlet cracked out on drugs? Are you running out of people to put on your covers? I want to see people, other than actresses, be on your cover. People you can’t find in the media right now! NEW PEOPLE! Why haven’t up and coming artist graced your cover? Why in the history of Nylon have little Kim and Devon Aoki been the only minorities to have been on a cover? There are people out there. I know you can find people in Europe, Mexico, Omaha, dammit anywhere!, who’ll give your magazine a fresh piece. We’ve all heard the story “I went to rehab and then...” please it’s really annoying and you can do better and you should. SURPRISE US!

i'm so uninterested in teenagers that are internet "celebs" who do nothing of worth. nylon, i used to love your publication, and i find it hard to believe that at 23 i'm out of your demographic. have i grown up and you digressed? if you are going to spend time on two people, how about two people that have actually accomplished something and have an interesting point of view or something to say? women trying to do something positive? not go out to clubs underage and party. i did that, didn't you? how is that news worthy or entertaining? what a disappointment. pop culture has more to it than this... what about women who are more than pop culture princesses? authors, activists, makeup artists, directors, DJs, scientists, i'm not asking for you to be bitch or anything but... i would actually like to be tempted to purchase your publication once again. it's been a while. i'm happy i decided not to subscribe this year.

wandering why ya put people like cory kennedy on the cover instead of some freaking nice guys like jackson pollis or jamie burke.....WTF!!

Charlotte

09/19/2007

i used to be obsessed with this magazine. i needed to read it like a sick person needs good medicine. but for the past couple of years i've been beside myself with shock at the direction in which this publication has turned. like nylon used to be so fresh so avant garde now i think it just celebrates the current west coast hipster culture, which isn't bad, but month after month after month of the same like rich white kid from california wearing clothes like big bright colours and and dior shoes is getting really really really old. nylon is on the same level as like in touch weekly now. i decided to never read nylon again when this customer at at my job who has front butt talks like a valley girl and has that fucking crayon trendshit coach bag was like omg i fuckin love this magazine!! like fuck her i bet a year ago she never even heard of it. nylon has become like that coach bag totally bending over for the masses of lame boring bourgeois people. and i refuse to read the same stuff as them. look at the covers lately...lindsay lohan, nicole richie, that weird blonde chick, cory kennedy, ashley olsen same boring formula over and over. the whole world is talking about them so why are you as well. you used to be so chic and edgy? what happened? why don't you remove the cobrasnake from your asses and start making good magazines again.

Charlotte

09/19/2007

p.s. if anyone is reading this and wants to find a really good magazine in the spirit of old nylon. i came across this mag at a bookstore and it kicks ass!!! Missbehave. totally fun edgy and not about sucking off hipster "celebrities". i'll read that while nylon decides to be lame.

Karen

I am rating this halfway because the pictuers look fun but yeah, I have NO idea who these kids are. Sorry I have things to do BESIDES read party blogs. On another note, yes Charlotte, totally agree. I think Nylon editors might want to read Issue 05. page 98.

Seriously, NYLON? Is it out of sheer laziness that you've quit being an edgy, interesting magazine and now spend your days simply aquiring enough steam to blow up the LA party scene's ass? We're over it, and we hope you're offended by our candidness. Maybe it'll spark some change.

Sarah

I remember the first time I picked up an issue of Nylon. Kelly Osbourne, whom I adore, was on the cover, and your magazine seemed interesting. I tried it out... and loved it. Your magazine was witty, funny, smart, and always interesting. For once, there was a fashion magazine that something I liked on every page, and was completely disconcerted by trends. You just put things that you liked in your magazine, and it worked. It was everything I'd ever wanted in a magazine-- not too outrageous, but never quiet either. Just the way I like it. I loved how you always put women that I admire on the cover: Ludivine Sagnier, Amber Tamblyn (I, as a writer, very much admire her and was thrilled to see her on your cover), Mena Suvari (which made me want to marry you), Fiona Apple, Jemina Pearl, Michelle Williams... it just got better and better. It was like you were reading my mind. But as I was surfing the internet a few weeks ago, I came here like I do every day and saw Lindsay Lohan on your front page. I thought I had imagined this, so I rubbed my eyes to make sure... I was not hallucinating. I was very disappointed. I envisioned people like Lindsay Lohan, who carelessly shows her vagina to the public without giving a damn, to be the anti-Nylon. I was hoping this issue wouldn't disappoint me like your choice of a cover girl did, but I found myself... complaining about Nylon, for maybe the first time. I no longer saw the unabashed magazine I loved. In its place, I saw a magazine wrapped up in trends and partying, putting socialites like Cory Kennedy (who is famous, basically, for breathing and living) on a pedestal and beginning to feature women more interested in the latest Us Weekly than the latest New York Times bestseller. I'm sad to say that I've started to think the Nylon I've always known and loved has died like the dinosaurs. STOP REVOLVING AROUND THE PARTY SCENE GET BACK TO THE BRAINS YOU UUSSSEEDD TO HAVE

people forget that the girl is only 18 years old. she has tons to learn, and all because she's well known does not mean people aren't accountable for being cruel. she's a kiddy. I guarantee that most people would kill to be in her position, and she's actually really nice in real life. Besides, it's really refreshing to see someone not take themselves (or fashion) too seriously.

so when mr.jarett told me at the yard sale in santa monica that cory was going to be on the next cover of nylon i thought he was jocking then i logged onto my computer and went on nlyonmag.com and there cory was on the cover of nylon! people always say neagtive things about her but ive met her and she is really nice. when i asked her for her autograph(i know lame) she wasnt all 'im too good for you' kind of thing it was cool

09/20/2007

I heard that Cory was going to be designing a line for Urban Outfitters...I think she's a cool girl and dresses better than most of the celebrities out there right now but do I think she's worthy of a Nylon cover? No. Not yet anyway! I agree with what people have said about putting interesting people on the covers. I look to Nylon for inspiration - a new spin on all the garbage thats out there and it seems that Nylon is heading in that direction....seriously though - Nicole Richie?? Girls, well in Nicole's case - women who don't have jobs, are recovering drug addicts and basically get pregnant by rock stars and shop all day aren't something that I aspire to be like. Bring back the old NYLON!!!!!

Reader1

09/20/2007

Gotta agree with the critics. You used to celebrate individuals and awesome creative people. And while you still scoff at those other girls (skanky Teen Vogue and wholesome poseur Seventeen), you're selling your loyal readers out to the "Indie-Cool" clique. We get it - high profile celebs can be candid and funny (wow!), indie bands are so au courant, it's hip to wear couture clothes that look like thrifty finds. I can almost hear your voice droning away in that jaded LA way. Come on, Nylon, ditch the fluff (tight pants vs flares?), get a brain, get an opinion and get sincere!

Thanks, London! Yeah, I am tired of Cory & I don't understand why Taylor is on the cover? she is just one of model wanna be downtown hipster, isn't she? Pls, Nylon! do some research all around. Those underage party girls are not something for us. We are so sick of those girls & They just like party, drinking, smoking & dressing themselves. There are girls on the street dress up way better than them. Try to find out someone more refreshing us. Oh!! Nylon!!! Wake up!!! PLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i first heard of NYLON from a friend in school who had the same edgy, alternative tastes as me and i fell in love with it right away. but please, don't put any more rich girls with fashion sense or celebrities out of rehab. revert back to the old NYLON, and put people like natalie portman, who are beautiful and intellegent, who are in good movies but don't let in go to their heads. i use to recommend NYLON to my friends, now i'm ashamed to say that i read it. =/

NYLON!! aren't you listening to your readers! only 30 % share this "omg! i loooooooove cory, shes like, so original!" mentality. the rest of us are pulling out our hair. it started with lindsey and its been all downhill since then (with a brief spike at evan rachel wood, thanks again. who the fuck cares about cory kennedy and her unkempt appearance and played out hipster status. has this girl even graduated high school? where are her parents?? shouldnt she be like going to football games and shit? puhlease!!

the reason taylor is in it is because she was one of the first "internet myspace/it girl" she came along time before cory and cory is the newest it girl that people love. i like both of them but i guess what nylon readers are trying to say is lets get someone new on the cover someone we havent heard of and someone who has a job that isnt about becoming the next 15 min star.

i think cory has been played out - its been what 2 years since she has been on the scene and what has she done?! nothing....a few nylon tv interviews, the same boring interview over and over again - we get it - we all know the story - the thing with this cover is its not anything new (except for the fact that its nylon) - nylon readers have known about cory since she first came out - its time for a change - somebody who is actually doing something with their lives...i heard the urban outfitters rumor too....but then thats a little too expected no? once this girl has done something to prove that shes worthy of all this then maybe i would be more supportive of the whole cover story thing...

NYLON, think Sassy and maybe peopel will start buying your magazine again instead of reading it online. I agree with a lot of the comments here, new faces please! Or at lease intriguing old ones! Ideas: Irina Lazareanu, Rachel McAdams, Beth Ditto, Michelle Tractenberg, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Whitney Port, Sarah Jessica Parker, Katherine Heigl.. there are so many better choices the list goes on!

stephanie

09/24/2007

I use to see that Cory Kennedy chick around LA 21 and over clubs all the time. Isn't she like 16 or something? She's not that interesting, I agree with everyone, it's stupid that she's on the cover, she didn't really do anything amazing to make her famous. The only reason why she got in the spotlight was because she was giving blow jobs to the cobra snake guy to let her hang around him.

E

09/24/2007

Ugh. NOT AGAIN. I thought we were over this when I saw Evan Rachel Wood on the last cover. I don't give a fuck about Taylor Warren. She seems pretty useless. And I don't mind Cory only because I've met her before and she actually IS a pretty decent, nice person. But I can see why people who have never met her or know anything about her are like "who is this bitch and why is she on the cover?!" She's cool & nice, I don't know if she's worthy of a COVER at this point. Dear Marvin, Just because you're friends with 16-year-olds and find them interesting in some (I'm sincerely hoping non-pervy) ways doesn't mean the rest of your readers do as well. And like Lilli said "This story better be worth my subscription, that's all I have to say."... because those two blurbs on them are extremely WEAK, and you're painting Cory as a future "E! True Hollywood Story: When Teen Internet Fame Goes Bad" victim. Please. No.

Taylor Warren Rules. she is the hottest, hardest working model/actress who has hit the NY scene in years. She is honest, professional and always puts 100% into all of her work. She graduated high school with honors and has put college on hold to pursue her dreams. Not to mention Taylor is represented by a Top talent agency, a huge model ageny as well as a personal manager! Whoever says that Taylor doesn't deserve the NYLON cover isn't really a NYLON reader, they just buy it so all of the cool people will think that they exist. Marvin you have awesome taste! Ta-Ta!

TAYLOR WARREN ROCKS!!!!!! I have not seen such a beautiful model since The Super Model Carol Alt. She has great style and always looks great. She is the only IT girl that I can see in this spread. She is adorable, sweet and always nice to people when they first meet her. If anything first impression, she is a little shy! TAYLOR YOU ARE A STAR!!!! Everyone will see you in the movies!

I have to say, I love Taylor Warren's style, it really is unique. However, I see nothing appealing about Cory Kennedy and she is just not an "it girl" and never will be. I think she tries way too hard and all it does is make Nylon look bad by pushing her down our throats over and over. Seriously, try someone new because I think everyone knows about Cory now, and "style" is the same as every other hipster in LA. Plus, I'd rather read an article about someone more interesting, instead of a teenage girl who thinks she's a grown-up who knows everything and is too good for her own peers. I love this issue, but I'm sick of seeing Cory's drugged out eyes and lackluster style in every Nylon these days.

pepermint

09/27/2007

"Cory is famous for doing nothing" duh. that is the point. it is an interesting feature of today's society that we have even produced an 'internet celebrity'. its the kind of thing that rightly or wrongly will be what this decade is remembered for. and surely that phenomenon is worthy or record. she isn't a drug addict, she's never shot wearing no underwear etc. and she has no job because she's a kid! sure you might find a hundred other kids with a similar style but ummm would you like one of them on the cover? take a cue from the girl and lighten up!

jackie

09/28/2007

yay! i love cory kennedy! she does have a job! fashion! and i know for a fact that she IS in SCHOOL. her last year of high school. if youve ever met her she highly intelligent and very intriguing. she has a persona that is just captivating. like if shes in a room, everyone just wants to be near her, and hang out with her because she really is the life of any crowd. shes also so freakin funny. i dont know her well, but have talked with her a few times. another thing is that she knows SO MUCH about fashion and designers and all of that, it blew my mind when i asked her a couple questions. she reminds me of edie sedgwick. i think she will end up being in films and go down that path. anyway,i really like cory and im glad shes on your cover. ive never heard of the other girl.

campbell

09/28/2007

At least it's not nicole again. God, that was bad. Cory's interesting if only because of what our culture has made out of her. She looks like every other drugged out party girl, and she's used the LA hipster scene to make herself famous, even though I feel like she and Urban Outfitters are probably the only people who aren't over themselves by now. It is sort of insulting to see an underage kid with such a bad attitude who dresses just like everyone else say she "hates mainstream," even though that's pretty much what she is. We've all been dressing like that for years. This cover was still a step in a much better direction though, because Taylor and the girls inside seemed lots more interesting and unique. I'm still thankful it wasn't Paris or Nicole.

Tina

Oh, I am thrilled! This is absolutely lovely! I cannot wait to get my hands on this issue. We just got the last issue here in Sweden (haven't got a chance to pop down to the store and buy it though, but trust me, I will!!). I signed up for a subscription in August some time so maybe this will be the first issue I get to my house, that would be awesome. I love Cory and Taylor's styles. Thank you for your awesomeness NYLON!!

i looked through the magazine, and couldn't find anything of interest. i said "okay if i don't find a good page to jump out at me i'm not buying it". just as i said that i saw taylor and cory towards the end. i thought okay maybe the last few pages will be better. well i was wrong. i shut the magazine and refused to buy the magazine after two years of loyalty. including two months of australian nylon. what everyone is saying is true. your magazine is now about how to be a hipster & look like everyone else who is a spoilt rich kid using their parents money, or famous for nothing.

Warren and Kennedy are two bright young things that glow with fierce confidence. They have the it-factor, no doubt about it. As for the possible it-girls that follow their spread in this month's issue... they're all maybes. I really like Zoe Kravitz and Amy Gunther. That one girl at the very end (Alice Dellal)annoyed me to with her prissy attitude. Full-on bitches are just not it-girls in my eyes. Haha.

I thought promoting shameless and unbridled narcissism was going out of style, but good, its not. Now I can get back to staring at myself in the mirror and leaning against this brick wall, smoking, and wearing my fucking awesome goodwill shorts. For real, yesterday you made me want to rip my face off: Alice Dellal, are you sure? a bully AND a slut who ALSO has that extra "je ne sais quoi"? IT GIRLS! btw, are you officially a teen magazine now? PS: Fall out Boy on the cover of Nylon Guys. That guy is so hip and dangerous, he really challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. It's become apparent that the editors at NYLON made this particular issue just for themselves and their close friends. It's like a scrap book I made of my summer vacation back in high school, only now I feel like the unpopular nerd and NYLON is the popular kid who's just using me for my swimming pool and letting me read the signatures in her year book.

im just really tired of this...everytime i go to pick up a mag theres always the same ppl in the cover!! and how dare you say that cory and taylor and it girls. I admire both Cory and Taylor's style. And I'd much rather see some type of models rather than the same actresses over and over, and for that, it was a good change. I just hope NYLON will put up more artists of some sort in the future...it's much more exciting and interesting.

Yeah, these bitches are "cute" but that doesn't mean a thing. Frankly, I'm tired of seeing your "high school drop-outs" because internet popular ... acting pompus like they got game. Big fucking whooop. You know how to put a couple of things together. Too bad you look like every other snobby 19 yr old whose crying because daddys' plastic has been taken away. Nylon, please stop disappointing your loyal readers.

Nylon has always been about being an attractive magazine. Who are you kidding? I'm 25 years old and just as into bitch as I'm into nylon. I feel like women are being forced to take sides or something. It's vicious and rather than take a side I would rather have fantasy and reality. I'll be a fashionable activist. WTF? Like the illusive 'old' Nylon was so different. Maybe you are the ones that are changing. It's good to challenge the mass media and all, but sheesh- before you know it the puritan revolution will be back and all art and entertainment will be considered sinful, while we are here arguing over trivia. Freedom of expression, diversity- long live bitch and nylon sleeping together next to my bed in harmony!

Why is everybody complaining? It's a fashion magazine. Although I may not agree with Cory's lifestyle, you have to admit she is pretty fashionable. I feel that a lot of NYLON readers don't know what they want anymore. Readers complained about Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie (both terrible choices, IMO), and now they're complaining about Cory. Just chill out, guys. You don't have to read it.

Dippity Dip YOU'RE SUCH A TOOL! WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? "Frankly, I'm tired of seeing your "high school drop-outs" because internet popular ... acting pompus like they got game. Big fucking whooop. You know how to put a couple of things together. Too bad you look like every other snobby 19 yr old whose crying because daddys' plastic has been taken away" YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO CLUE, ONE OF THESE GIRLS ALREADY GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL WITH HONORS (TAYLOR) AND NEITHER OF THEM ARE RICH SPOILED BRATS WITH CREDIT CARDS TO CUT OFF THEY'RE HARD WORKING STRONG YOUNG WOMEN! YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS THAT YOUR BIG PIMPLY FAT A$$ ISN'T ON THE COVER OF ANYTHING AND YOU PROBABLY WISH YOU WERE AN IT GIRL INSTEAD OF JUST AN "IT"! GO CRAWL BACK UNDER A ROCK WITH AN IN-STYLE MAGAZINE AND READ ABOUT COKED OUT NO TALENTS WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS AND BAD PLASTIC SURGERY! PEEEAAAAYCE!

I'm from New Zealand and I was stupid enough to pay $NZ15 for Nylon every month because I thought it was original and intelligent. Too good to be true. Lindsay Lohan/Sienna Miller/Christina Aguilera (!) started creeping on to the covers and it made me wanna PUKE. I agree with most of what everyone has said. Nylon has SOLD OUT. Instead of inspiring/ informing, it's resorted to encouring a new generation/ breed of stupid, selfish, consumer-clones. (CLICHE) STYLE, BUT NO SUBSTANCE. Sad. White. Rich. Trust-fund. I prefer the likes of Russh magazine, and REAL fashion magazines that break down boundaries and stereotypes -- not ones that jump on every fad and one-trick show-pony, to remind what's left of their readership of their fleeting hipster cred. Cory is interesting to look at, but maybe she shouldn't be on the cover until she releases her fashion line. At least she has x-factor, compared to that Taylor girl, who looks like every teen model out there. Taylor's not very special, physically, compared to the likes of models such as Gemma Ward or even Miranda Kerr. Plus, reading her blog, she seems quite...bitchy/ try-hard. Rather.......bland. Why is she even on the cover? Because of networking/ connections? So what if a handful of airhead tweens look up to her? Because she passed highschool and gained entrance into uni?! Jeeeeez, can humanity get any more stupid. Kurt Cobain would be rolling in his goddamn grave at the state of this fucked up mess. RIP, SASSY MAGAZINE.

^ agreed. i feel violated that i even know who that taylor girl is. she looks like every girl walking down the street. and yeah, compare her to top-earning models like miranda kerr or even gemma. but most of all she just seems boring and bitchy. and a bit desperate. not a nice combination. i doubt she'll appeal to the real fashion world - editorials, campaigns, etc. if she does, good for her. i wish her the best. but i hope she remembers beauty comes from the inside. i've met cory and she's delightful. wonderful personality, really gorgeous without trying and she has a special appeal. she has a major following in australia. i predict a successful future for her. she's quite...edgy. chloe sevigny-esque.
