Her lipsticks are basically cheap, novelty trash you can find anywhere. They don't last either.
Simone
04/02/2010
I agree with Jackie. Also her 'magic dusts' are repackaged micas from TKB trading. This isn't a rumour spread by 'jealous haters', there are swatches and perfectly matching ingredient lists out there to prove it.
Tiffany

This girl, Xenia, is a scam artist! She has been ripping people off since her days on ebay and she continues to do so now. How could you, Nylon, do any type of feature on someone with such a horrible reputation of lying and taking advantage of their customers!
Valerie
04/02/2010
I have 2 lipsticks and 1 eyeshadow from Doe Deere and they are my favorite! Thanks for doing a feature on my favorite blogger Nylon!
Haters, go away. Nobody wants to hear your crap.
Anna
04/02/2010
to be fair, a very large number of companies use micas from TKB or other similar distributors. The point of difference is that Lime Crime doesn't add fillers that take away from the the pigment and cheapen the manufacturing costs of makeup.
It's unfair to go around pointing fingers at anyone without any sort of backup.
Katie

I love Doe!
I have almost all of the lipsticks and they are amazing.
Thanks for posting this!

04/02/2010
Doe's makeup may or may not be simply repackaged pigments. Only she knows that for sure. However, one cannot deny that she is a complete style icon and really brings a refreshing brightness to the plate. She doesn't look like your typical girl and I do firmly trust that she does care about her fans. She gives wonderful advice and in my humble opinion, as a style inspiration and role model towards being yourself, she cannot be beat.

Oh Nylon, what happened to you? You used to be my favourite magazine, but I guess now anyone that makes a mediocre product (either repackaged or drying and staining, with an insane markup) can be in Nylon.
Oh, and Anna, Lime Crime may not add fillers, but they also don't add adhesives. It's straight mica, which is an ingredient and not formulated to be worn on it's own.
Bryoni

Love Doe, love Lime Crime. Her house seems so magical and I love all the unicorns! Thank you NYLON!

Doesn't her husband live there too? Where does he keep his stuff? The dog house?

04/03/2010
I don't have a bad word to say against Doe, unlike some people who have obviously got it into their heads to be nasty.
What a gorgeous house! I don't think I'd be as brave as her to paint my house so brightly. I do love her dream/sleep-themed bedroom though :)

04/03/2010
I have been a HUGE fan of Doe's blog forever and finally purchased 3 magic dusts and 3 lippies....they are amazing.
It's true the lippes are VERY opaque, so they go on rather goopy/with smears, but when applied with skill and care there is no problem.
The magic dusts are awesome too, I adore them. I have only 3 so far but I plan to collect them all.
Personally, I don't see the scam.....we are paying for HER to create an amazing package, HER to find killer pigments, HER to bring these to us the customer. I think that's fair....I mean, why not???
I listen to the 'haters' with an open mind, and must ask, why does she threaten them so much??? It must be their problem only.
Hey, more Lime Crime for the rest of us then! ;)
Ann
04/03/2010
With all the insane drama surrounding this bag of wind, I'm surprised that Nylon would feature her. (or at least do their research first and realize that they should stay far far away) I'm disappointed to see this here.
jasmine
04/03/2010
Xenia (aka Doe Deere) is a scam artist and should not be trusted. Please google her reviews and just see what pops up when you type in lime crime. See the suggestions they give you? Repackaging, fraud, scam, etc. I could go on and on forever about her, but like I said, just google her and see what pops up.
Hannah
04/03/2010
I would bet ANYTHING that the only positive reviews on here are written by Xenia sock-puppeting as usual. She's famous for that. Type in 'Doe Deere Encycopedia Dramatica' for the hilarious backstory on her.
Jasmine
04/03/2010
Just watch, this is going to become one big competition for Xenia to keep up with all the negative reviews that are going to pop up on here. She's going to spend all day writing fake positive reviews about her company, just to keep those hearts as close to 5 as possible.
Jolene
04/03/2010
Wow, Nylon, you're really losing inspiration these days aren't you? That was the tackiest house I've ever seen! And since when do fat girls get shown on your videos? I thought we were supposed to be inspired?
Lana
04/03/2010
I wouldn't waste my money on her products. If I'm going to shell out $$$ for makeup, it's going to be on a reputable brand, with non-tacky packaging, and non-shady business practices.
Oh, and one who actually has a return policy - Lime Crime had NO return policy until people started filing claims against her via their credit card companies and paypal (when their products arrived broken, and she refused to replace them)
No thank you!
Aaron
04/03/2010
She will ask Nylon to remove the negative comments like she always does. Watch them mysteriously disappear.
Michele
04/03/2010
Nylon - Please do your research before posting things like this. Xenia has an ongoing history of shady business practices. Repackaging comments, censoring blog comments, removing bad reviews, refusing refunds, photoshoping product photos, flat out lying and deception. A simple google search would have revealed this. LAME.

04/03/2010
i've followed xenia for years. shes a back stabbing attention seeker who will go to great lengths to sabotage anyone who outshines her. Negative reviewers are threatened with legal action, called "jealous haters" or cited in her newsletter encouraging followers to spam with positive comments. Xenia is a joke! a sock puppeting, attention seeking, butt kissing joke.

This brand is a joke. Doe is a train wreck. Get this chick out of here, and lets get back to the REAL artists/designers.

04/03/2010
Why would you feature a known scam artist, Nylon?
Save your money for a better, more reputable company.
Danielle
04/03/2010
Xenia is a notorious scam artist. I've been following her since 2004 and she certainly hasn't changed any. I'm highly disappointed to see her featured here.
Ashley
04/04/2010
A liar with terrible PR. She accused the people who initially had problems with her makeup as 'jealous haters.' Terrible, terrible customer service, and not a nice person. The product is crap. Please people, do not refer to her looks. That does no good, and distracts from the main problem here.
Anna
04/04/2010
Nylon, why are you giving publicity to this liar and cheat?!
Lana
04/04/2010
Just because she has bright clothing and a cute accent doesn't mean she should be featured in a such a reputable magazine. Her product is horrible and she's a known liar, no one should look to this girl for inspiration.
Janine
04/04/2010
I can't believe Nylon wasted their time on this. Xenia has such a horrible reputation. She's two-faced and uses her blog to brain wash young girls into wasting their money on her trash. She's a sad, low grade internet celeb, that's it! Find someone with real talent to do a feature on Nylon!
Claire
04/04/2010
As long as I've been aware of her, she's been doing unscrupulous things to get people to part with their money. You can buy her whole Magic Dust range (completely unaltered, with no tweaking) at a wholesale site tkbtrading.com for about 1.50 a sample, which contains more product than a full side pot of her dusts at $12, including colours she has since discontinued. Anyone who has Magic Dusts and doesn't believe she would claim to invent something she actually bought cheap off a wholesalers, it will cost you $1.50 to find out. The lipsticks are probably of her own design, but most of the reviews have been negative. The product looks poor-quality, and I would not want to support Xenia as a person, as she has been proven as a liar on many occassions. She gives young women entrepreneurs a bad name :(
Jenny
04/04/2010
Disappointing. This girl is WELL-known for her amazingly shallow, bi-polar ways; she is one big waste of space. Later, she will speak of these comments within her blog and her husband will come to the rescue by helping to produce an over-abundance of positive reviews and comments to make it look like she has support. Thanks for the interview, Nylon; it only solidifies how disliked and two-faced she is.
Jo
04/04/2010
Doe Deere is a liar and a cheat. Example: her "Porcelain Doll" makeup tutorial on her blog from October 08: she changed the lipstick she initially said she used there from a Revlon one (as revealed by comments) to her own line - yet her lipsticks were released a YEAR later! So it's obvious she went back and changed it and is therefore lying, even without the proof in the comments that it was initially listed as Revlon! Furthermore, she bullies and harasses people who give her less than perfect reviews (example: Temptalia's recent review, where Doe encouraged those signed up to her mailing list to email the review writer and harass her for not giving Lime Crime an A+). Maybe you should do some research first before promoting such a deceitful company.
Tarin
04/04/2010
Dearest Nylon Magazine, let's go google.com, and type "lime crime scam" Then you'll know the person you featured on this video is a scammer who threats to sue the bloggers who posted negative reviews about her company and sells repackaged mica from TKB Trading and claims she makes all of her products by herself. If you want to know about her dark past, google "lime crime a history" Or simply go lillianfunnyface.blogspot.com/search/label/Lime%20Crime Nylon, why you didn't do research before featuring her? I was disappointed at you. Probably Doe will ask you to delete all negative comments here as she does always. But, you might know censoring someone's opinion isn't "hip" in this country. Don't you?
gloria
04/04/2010
lime crime is not someone you want to be featuring!
her eye dusts are repackaged from a wholesaler and sold at a ridiculous markup, her lipsticks are AWFUL quality, and the lady herself makes a point of threatening to sue anyone who gives her make-up a less than stellar review online, or she asks her fans to go attack that person. any polite dissenters on her blog itself are mocked and disrespected by her or her husband.
not to mention the fact that she once held a charity raffle and then refused to tell anyone which organisation would receive the money, and then proceeded to make up an animal shelter that did not exist and claimed she donated to them. it is generally suspected that she used the charity money to finance the honeymoon she went on right after this.
google lime crime scam if you want to know more. she is a scam artist, don't promote her!

04/04/2010
This is about her house. Can we leave it at that?
Lillian
04/04/2010
I'm afraid that the negative comments are not just 'rumours spread by jealous haters', there is concrete proof all over the web that her eyedusts are just repackaged mica powders (which, as someone above said, would actually be better if she at least added 'fillers' because they would help wearability, adhesion and longevity) i have my own swatches on my blog and there are more in many other places. As for her lipsticks, they are at least her own creation (or at least a private label formula that she has had some imput into) but reviews of them have been overwhelmingly negative.
In the past i was a customer of hers, as was my mother and we had a really bad experience with her customer service:
Up until recently Lime Crime would not allow any replacements or refunds, even if the products arrived broken or faulty.
She lies on old makeup tutorials, claiming to be using her own lipstick when the look was made over a year before the lipsticks were invented. She used to ask people to remove any negative comments on her company from their blogs and she has asked her fans to spam any negative reviews on her products, recently including Temptalia's personal email address in a newsletter.
She is a liar and a cheat, her products are sub-par and in some cases simply repacked and sold for an insane markup, all the while claiming it's her own formulation.
Having said all that, i really do like her house, it's the sort of tacky-fairytale-OTT-nonsense styling i like. And she certainly isn't 'fat' as someone above commented. Personally i think she's very cute but there's no reason to bring her appearance into it, no matter how pretty or how ugly she was it wouldn't make a difference to her appalling business tactics.
Audrina
04/04/2010
I don't get why people find her so fascinating? Wearing tons of pastels and loving unicorns is not innovative in any way. Her taste looks generic and tacky as shit. NEWSFLASH: Lisa Frank did it better. :OP
P.S. To the person who said Doe is fat...I would have to disagree. She is certainly not fat, or ugly at all. It's her deceptive personality that make her pathetic.

What the hell Nylon???
Caytie
04/04/2010
Whether or not you like lime crime's eyeshadows and lipsticks has nothing to do with this article. Point blank: no one cares. There's always going to be people who hate her and always going to be people who love her, as well as people who search for ways to make her life miserable and those who do the opposite. Say what you want but NO ONE knows what goes on behind closed doors at Xenia's house, and no one knows whether she truly is a happy, sparkly rainbow goddess or just an evil, hateful witch lady. Despite what you read, NOT EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE INTERNET IS TRUE BUT NOT EVERYTHING ISN'T. Jumping to conclusions about it doesn't help or hurt anyone, as I'm sure she's at home, sound asleep in her bed. Also; a lot of companies repackage TKB pigments and such, suck it up.
I think Nylon knows what it's doing better than ANYONE posting a comment on the video. If any of you were as smart as you think you were when you posted that comment, then you would be WORKING for Nylon.
Basically, if you don't like her, move on and buy other products. If you like her, buy her products and tell everyone how much you love them. Write UNBIASED reviews WITHOUT being a witch in them, doing EVERYTHING you can to find everything that, in your mind, is a sin about her cosmetics. There is good in there, despite what you have forced yourselves to believe.
I ENJOYED the video, as I find her house to be very fun. Most of you are FORGETTING that this video is showing you her HOUSE, and there is nothing about the creation, repackaging or distribution of her cosmetics in here.
Ann
04/04/2010
Caytie - There HAVE been unbias reviews of her products. But if any review isn't 100% positive, Xenia will throw a huge hissy fit and demand that it be changed / taken down or she will take legal action (or in the case of poor Temptalia, she will release your personal email address to her minions, and ask them to spam her)
Also - not everyone wants to work for Nylon magazine. Some of us have successful careers in other fields.
Caytie
04/04/2010
I also love how NO ONE HAS MENTIONED her article on creating lipstick, which she was clearly doing in a proper lab, etc. etc.
Also, I cannot stress this enough: really, who gives a fuck?
Caytie
04/04/2010
Then why do people here keep saying they're posting "unbiased reviews" filled with defamatory bullcrap? Maybe you guys should rethink your vocabulary, as doing nothing but trashing he is NOT unbiased.
If your career is so successful, you probably have something better to do on Sunday morning (Easter to boot) than post comments for Nylon videos.
Chloe
04/04/2010
I don't know about this one, there's nothing overly groundbreaking about this house. Anyone can buy a variety of acid-bright paint and mash it all on a wall with very little consideration as to whether the colors work together or not. I don't see anything particularly inspiring here.
Her ethics and whatever shady business practices she is apparently engaging in are irrelevant here but even aside from that there are plenty of things to be disappointed in with this feature
Veronica
04/04/2010
Caytie-don't YOU have anything better to do on Easter then defend someone you don't even know? Your panties are sure in a wad for thinking this isn't worth discussing. Just because her lipsticks were created in a legit lab, doesn't make them worth a shit.
Sandra
04/04/2010
Caytie - that article was under a lot of scrutiny, as the machine she claimed to have been using wasn't even plugged in! (check the picture for yourself) It was also brought to light (by people who actually work in makeup labs) that Xenia was not wearing proper lab attire in any of her photos - and any legit lab would not have let her into a clean area like that, or let her swatch prototypes on her arm. The whole article was badly put together, and borderline laughable.
Ann
04/04/2010
Caytie - We "give a fuck" as consumers. For the same reason that the BBB "gives a fuck" and unions "give a fuck" and theconsumerist.com "gives a fuck" we are looking out for consumers everywhere.
I challenge you to find me ONE instance of trashing in temptalia's review. Please. Try.
My career is successful enough that I only have to work during the week. No weekend work here. We're both posting on the same internet article on the same day - who are you to judge me? Also, not everyone celebrates Easter LOL Where are you from?
Emily

I love Doe Deere and Lime Crime! I have been an avid supporter for years now, and have all of her products in my makeup arsenal... That's saying a lot as I'm a MAC artist!
Her makeup line is amazing and has incredible payoff. It is not repackaged as some claim (that is a blatant lie; I have done the swatches against TKB myself) and she is a fabulous and kind person.
Thank you, Nylon, for supporting and featuring this true visionary and artistic spirit! Kudos!
Margaret
04/04/2010
Caytie, please don't call real disappointed customers like myself and many others "haters". I was a dedicated repeat Lime Crime customer, I own 8 of her Magic dusts(from before she upped the quantity) and a lipstick. When I found out about the repackaging claims, I didn't believe it. I decided to find out for myself if it was true, so I bought the TKB samples that were the supposed matches to the colors I owned... and they all matched perfectly. I paid $12 a pot for LC because I thought the products I was getting were unique colors. I was misled. And sure, many other companies repackage TKB shades without disclosing it. Doesn't make that right either. We as consumers have a right to our opinion, and I show my opinion by not giving my money to companies that I don't trust.
On the other hand, I like the LC lipstick I bought very much, but I won't even consider giving her any of my money until she completes the "revamp" she announced of the magic dust line. Hopefully this revamp will include making the colors your own, Xenia.

I was so shocked to find out she was a fraud. I wish I had known sooner, and I'm upset that more people will find out about her through this and waste their money.
I'm a disappointed customer- whoever was posting just above me is lying about TKB or has got the wrong products. I've made the comparisons to the Lime Crime I own, and they are all identical. It's saddening. She's a scam artist.

P.S, if anyone is not convinced, take a look at this:
lipsticksandlightsabers.com/2010/01/lime-crime-beneath-glitter.html
and see if you can explain it away. The girl who made this post spent a lot of money on the Magic Dusts because she liked Doe and beleived her claims of 100% created by her products. Why lie?

My biggest issue with Lime Crime isn't that she just repackages another brand's product and calls them her own. Doe pretends to preach feminism and supporting your fellow sisters, however she aggressively attacks other women-owned indie makeup lines that she sees as a threat. Most notably Sugarpill, which Doe has been trying to sabotage with fake sockpuppet accounts and bogus photoshopped evidence trying to badmouth her competition. Friendly competition is healthy for all businesses, but Doe just plays too dirty. I could never support someone with such poor business ethics.

This girl is a joke, and I can't believe a reputable magazine such as Nylon would give her any kind of attention. Xenia has a long, long history of ripping people off and selling shoddy, misrepresented products. I know this because I spent $50 on a pair of sunglasses from her eBay store years ago that she claimed were designer ADULT sunglasses fresh off the Paris catwalk. When I received them, I was dismayed to discover they were actually worthless CHILDREN TOY SUNGLASSES that you you can get in a multi-pack in the party favor aisle at Target. I sent her a very polite email asking for a refund, as her listing clearly failed to mention these were a children's toy and not real sunglasses. It took her 3 days to respond, and when she did, all she had to say for herself was that all sales were final and that I should have asked all questions before bidding. I was heartbroken that someone who sells an image of being all sunshine and sparkles could be so dishonest and cruel. I actually forgot all about the incident until years later she popped up with this makeup line and I saw that she was defrauding people once again. It makes me sad. How long is she going to get away with this?
Anne

I came here because of the drama, I'll admit that much. But the Nylon video was poorly produced. Why wasn't there a wide angle shot of the room. All you see is Xenia holding this object and that object. I really didn't get an overall feel for the design.
Re: Anne
04/04/2010
I dislike the product AND I dislike her as a person. I bought over $100 worth of the magic dusts and was greatly disappointed. You're just going to tell me that if I didn't like the product I could have gotten a refund. Well I TRIED! She wouldn't give me my money back!
Lisa
04/04/2010
To those of you telling those of us that dislike her on a personal level to chill out, please stay out of this. Xenia has been screwing people over for around 6 or 7 years now (that we know of and that's been documented). She is not an honest person like she tries to come off us. This is proven weekly with new scandals unfolding! She honestly seems to think that the rest of us are blind fools who cannot see the blatant crooked moves that she pulls.

Guys, have you ever order Lime Crime lipsticks? The package says "Distributed by Lime Crime, Made In Los Angeles" Lime Crime is a small, NEW YORK based company. It means she's NOT making her lipsticks by herself. If you want to see the pix of the package, go emeraldsrain.livejournal.com/149717.html I've read an article about the how to make lipsticks. I'm sure no indie cosmetics makers have such a professional lab to make just lippies. lol It's a fake. Did you notice she didn't wear gloves, mask and apron in the picture? For the hygienic reasons, it's prohibited and against FDA regulation. This behavior isn't professional even she was in such a professional lab. Don't you think so? I've also watched her video making eyeshadows either and it disgusted me. She didn't wear the gloves again and just put micas into the ziploc and shaked it. If you want to know how to make eyeshadows in proper way, go youtube.com/watch?v=nccNupgAHtw The owner of Aromaleigh(other indie cosmetics brand) shows you more "professional" way. Of course she wore the gloves, mask and apron because Aromaleigh make their products by themselves. This video is completely different from Doe's poor ziploc shaking one. youtube.com/watch?v=xB6HjDC-Y_E Check them out if you really believe Doe's words.

Wow you people are sick! You don't like her - we GET IT so stop following everything she does! You post any and every place you get a chance to..seriously!? Where's the scam? She repackages..who cares!? People are really paying for the brand anyway. I bet many of your favorite brands have done the exact same thing in the past. Would I personally pay extra $$ for something I could get cheaper - of course not but I don't go around yelling scammer because I'm jealous. She's a smarter business woman then you - get a life haters.
Sam.
04/05/2010
How about this - that "tour" was really lame because we only saw, like, two rooms.
Honestly, I don't care if she repackages. I'm never, ever, ever spending twelve freaking dollars on eyeshadow that isn't made of pure gold, and I'm not wearing blue lipstick. Yah.
Re: Nicole
04/05/2010
Her scams go waaayyyy beyond repackaging. She is a very, very dishonest person. She is being caught doing new, terrible dishonest things weekly! You're just not aware, therefore you don't want to believe it's true. Follow the examiner.com or go to lipsticksandlightsabers.com or lillianfunnyface.com.
All three of those sites are documenting all the shady moves she just keeps pulling!!! Her latest is her front photo on limecrimemakeup.com. She's saying the lipstick she's wearing is retrofuturist. Funny, b/c she actually took that photo 2 years ago, 1 year before her lipsticks were even created! She used to say it was Revlon she was wearing, but now changed it to Retrofuturist and photoshopped the color from orange to red. That's just the latest though. Keep up or shut up b/c you don't know what you're talking about!

Nicole, Your comment reeks of ignorance. Some of the people here have been following Xenia for a long time, many of which were fans at one point.. myself included. She has a long and well-documented history of scamming people (that goes far beyond selling repackaged makeup), as well as a history of unprofessionalism and entitlement.

Just because a friend of a friend told you she is a 'scam artist' doesn't mean it is true.
I think this is a great feature, and woman should be inspired by Doe's determination.
We woman are brought up to despise successful and/or beautiful woman, instead of respecting each other. This has got to change!
Chill out, people!
04/05/2010
There is really no reason for both sides to be so rude and nasty to each other. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of Lime Crime. Why do we have to argue about it? And some of the comments here are so catty. She is not fat by any means!
I personally would never buy from Lime Crime because the products are grossly misrepresented and overpriced, and her customer service is subpar. I spent $150 on her eye dusts, right before it came out that they were just repackaged from TKBtrading.com. I bought the dupes from TKB to see for myself, and found them to be absolutely identical. When I e-mailed Doe asking to return the eye dusts for a refund since her product was misrepresented (she claimed that she had created this unique product herself and that you would not find pigments this bright anywhere), she never responded to my e-mail. I had to manually file a chargeback with my credit card company to return the items, which was a real pain in the a$$.
I would never buy from her again, nor would I recommend her brand to any of my friends. But all this name-calling and fighting between fans and disappointed customers is really immature and unnecessary.

I agree that women should support each other instead of being jealous and catty. So why does Doe blatantly attack and try to sabotage other women-owned indie businesses such as Sugarpill Cosmetics? Seems to me that Doe is the catty one who needs to get her jealousy in check.

A lot of people say they don't care about the drama, that it's ONLY THE PRODUCT that's important. Well, try googling "Lime Crime review" and see what comes up. Nothing but negative reviews about her PRODUCTS. The only good reviews you'll find are on Lime Crime's own site, which is highly suspicious. Hundreds of disappointed customers have even come out and said that when they tried to submit their honest reviews on LC's site, only 4 or 5 star reviews were approved.

I used to be a huge Lime Crime fan, all the way back to her eBay fashion designer days. I think what is most disappointing is that if anyone (including her fans!) has any valid complaints or questions about her business or products, she immediately dismisses them as jealous haters. I spent a lot of my teen years idolizing her, so it was quite a slap in the face to have her call me jealous for asking if her makeup line was repackaged from TKB. It's just a very rude way to treat people who look up to you. I've lost so much respect for her more because of the way she treats people than because of the repackaging thing.

Ok, i am super confused. I have been a fan of Doe's for a while now have purchased four of her lipsticks, and am very happy with them. So far i have had no issues. I casually follow her blog and find her charming and innovative. I do not understand a lot of the hate. True i have only followed her for about a year and i bought her products after watching some great reviews on youtube from some gurus i would consider honest and knowledgeable. So i cannot speak for anything she did on ebay or whatever i never saw it. Now to my question. I am asking anyone who has bought please note BOUGHT her products and had issues with them what your issues were and WHAT CONCRETE proof please note CONCRETE, that is out there that she has scammed anyone. To me a a lippie that doesn't last long or a sheer eyeshadow does not count as a scam. I want proof that she actually has ever stolen money from a consumer in an illegal manner. I have looked up sites that some of the ppl have suggested here and they are all BS. a personal blog or a mock Wikipedia entry is not proof, it is immature. So please to people who say there is true proof out there produce it, becasue so far with my personal research i have found none, only people saying hateful and immature things about a person they never met. THis is NOT proof. I am not trying to stick it to the haters, i am truly trying to see if i should follow Doe Deere anymore or not, but i will not be swayed into childish gossip. If you chose to answer this please make sure your facts are straight.

To those of you defending Xenia and her company are blind. We are not freaking out for no reason, we have valid reasons. As written above, there are many sites documenting her shady moves (weekly!) as they unfold. She is a genuine wolf in sheep's clothing. Please, do not be so quick to dismiss these allegations as 'jealousy from haters'. I WAS a big fan of Doe, and it saddened and disappointed me when I became aware of the extent of her shadiness. I want to like her, and I still read her blog, but I would never now give her any more of my money or personally support her business due to her ethics.
I encourage people to educate themselves, and consult some of the many unbiased reviews before dismissing any negative comments as jealousy. These complaints are numerous and not unfounded, so please at least read them, and then make your own mind up.

Many of us have followed Xenia for years now. She is constantly losing friends because she screws them over (she recently got caught posting anonymous anti-Shrinkle photos only to be traced back to her) a fake charity auction scam that got her paypal acct. closed & she never named the shelter +much more. She constantly deletes things though or threatens to sue ppl if they don't delete their honest blog posts.

My main problem with Lime Crime is that the reviews on her site are censored/fake. I don't listen to internet gossip, so I went ahead and ordered 2 lipsticks from her site because I thought they looked pretty. I gave both of them 4 out of 5 star reviews because the colors were indeed very pretty, but explained that I deducted one star off the score because the formula chapped my lips REALLY badly. I was surprised that my reviews were never posted because they were all in all quite nice. So to whoever above that said that she only posts 4 and 5 star reviews, that's not true. She won't even post your 4 or 5 star review if it contains anything negative at all.

All in all, I would generally avoid a company that has this many unsatisfied customers and is constantly surrounded by drama. I don't buy the excuse that it's all rumors started by jealous haters. Why would hundreds of people who don't even know each other conspire to take one company down? There is something definitely very wrong with Lime Crime.
Teresa
04/05/2010
Here's the thing. Xenia accusing all of her dissatisfied customers just doesn't make sense. If I were to buy something from MAC for instance, and I wasn't happy with it, I'd go back to the store and return it. Can you imagine if they were to tell me I can't return it because I'm just jealous? It just wouldn't happen.

Ah, to be young again. You have a lot to learn little (not big) girl. Compare the number of negative comments to positive ones; there is QUITE a difference. Even if you don't *know* about the supposed scams, it really isn't hard to see there is *something* going on; they are merely expressing their opinions and experiences. Not ALL of these comments can be exaggerating or intentionally mean! True, not everything online is 100% honest, but you have to admit that the number of these negatives, the fact that they keep coming, and the fact they are incorporating so many different experiences and situations is frightening. Xenia is a terrible seller, a great liar, and a very not-so-bright girl who needs to ship out immediately.
P.S. - Well-written comments tremendously complimenting Xenia and her "honest" and "they're all just jealous haters" endeavors? That's her husband, attempting to rack up the positives. Wave!

What is with the emphasis on the not big girl? Honestly trying to insult me because i am looking for this concrete proof that everyone seems to have doesn't help or answer my question. I am well aware that there must be some merit to these negative comments. that is why i was asking for real proof. If it cannot be produced then i will remain neutral on the subject.(btw how do you know it is her husband? a genuine question?) Also to LOL, please there is no need to be rude to me. i find her as a person inspiring there are plenty of people that use pastels and colors i am aware of that. no cosmetic company is truly innovative just relatively so compared to its competition. So really nobody is truly innovative. Compared to other companies though yes i find brands like limecrime, sugarpill, and urban decay innovative. compared to the mass of Smokey eyes, and boring neutral shades. I never said she was the best, only that i liked her.

Simone

While I'm aware that there's a lot of 'immature', 'hateful' stuff floating around about Doe/Xenia, the bottom line is that there is CONCRETE EVIDENCE that she is repackaging wholesale micas from TKB.
There are comparison swatches and videos from a number of sources, not just one or two, so you can see for yourself.
Of course it's quite possible to make something which looks similar to an existing product. But every single one of the LC Magic Dusts has a matchable dupe in a TKB mica. That's quite a 'coincidence'. Besides, even if you still don't believe that it's repackaged, doesn't that make you think that maybe LC isn't quite as unique as Xenia claims it is?
You can compare the ingredients list of Lime Crime's magic dusts with TKB micas. No difference. So, for those of you who are saying that she adds something to the pure micas to make them stick better...no, she doesn't.
It's not illegal to purchase something and then resell it at a hiked up price. The reason why people are angry with Xenia is that she isn't honest about it, and she has made outrageous claims about being a pioneer of bright colours when there are actually tons of companies out there offering better.
I've read comments from people saying that they don't care if it's repackaged or wholesale, they just want to support the brand. All I can say is that if you want to pay that much for something which you could get (exactly the same minus tacky unicorn jar) for just A COUPLE OF DOLLARS elsewhere...that's entirely your choice, but I'd be interested to hear a logical justification for it.
So, before we've even taken into account her threatening bloggers with lawsuits (search 'Gothique Lime Crime' if you want just one example) and her censoring of reviews on the Lime Crime site (just try and leave a bad review, see what happens)...maybe you can already see why people are being 'haters'.
Irene
04/07/2010
No idea who this chick is, but that's pretty sad when you get more hate comments than a Courtney Love video, haha.
Re: Simone
04/07/2010
Yeah, exactly. I think lots of people are confused about the repackaging because, like you say, it's not illegal to buy from a wholesalers, bump up the price and sell it on. Lime Crime fans, if this was just what they were doing, nobody would be angry. It's the fact that Xenia has constantly maintained that she sat down and worked out the formula for each one, made sure there was nothing brighter out there, strived to make everything unique and treated every colour like her brainchild. Then it came out that every single colour of hers could be bought on TKB. Worst of all, the reason this came to light is because tonnes of people bought her story and lots of her eyeshadows, to find out they were exact matches to the TKB ones in their collection. Wouldn't you be just a little bit angry to have spent all that money for something that is identical to something you got for $1.50, when you were led to believe it was 100% unique?
Anyway, even if you feel fine about being lied to in that way, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Lime Crime's philosophy seems to be "say anything to sell the product". They don't care if what they say is misleading, spurious or an outright lie, and they lie to their customers constantly, who mostly seem to be very young girls. That is why they won't get any money from me.

More of the house should have been shown, true. Nylon shows this because her house is different and interesting, even though not for every taste (not for me for example). I find Doe Deere an active and succesful person without taking any sides to weather she lies or gives bad custmoer service or such. She gets a lot of media coverage and does the things she wants and you have to give her credit for that. But I guess most of you are very very young and don't get things like this. Yet. And since when is 12$ for an eyeshadow much? Or $16 for a lipstick? What cheap crap do you usually buy?

I'm an artist myself so I can understand another artist. It takes talent and dedication. For those calling it "Halloween" and "kids" makeup, you probably just aren't seeing the endless possibilities of such pigmented, opaque shades. You can mix and make your own colors! You can wear them matte or all glossed up. They double as pretty blushes too. Think of it as paint, your face being the canvas. Anyway, great stuff. Cute, funky, free-spirited girl. Frankly I ordered a black lipstick in her line before I googled anything about her. Its a great lipstick, as its hard to find super glossy black that goes on thick. It does bleed, but it stays in place with primer and lipliner. The color and thickness makes up for the not so amazing formula.
I hope that black lipstick lasts me awhile because I won't be purchasing from her ever again since she acts like a douche.
Oh, and the house is sorta lame. I love bright colors, but she makes them look as tacky as all hell.

Personally, I think I'd rather tell Nylon to take this down than keep it up. There are a LOT more 1 star reviews than there are 5 star. There is no guarantee that any of the 5 star reviews are by actual people or Xenia just using fake accounts. Plenty of people have had terrible experiences with Lime Crime, and few times can I type LC in anywhere and get some sort of good review. Personally, of all the reputable bloggers out there, I would rather trash a brand new lime crime pigment or lipstick than put it anywhere on my face. I've seen enough of her screaming and cussing people out that dislike her products. For all the 5 star reviews that want concrete proof, although Encyclopedia dramatica DOES blow the proportions out of the water on how they say things, if you read entire articles, you can get the gist of it all and summarize it up to be true http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/Doe_Deere
The girl who received the duct-tape-hemmed dress btw? She is on youtube. Her mother was pretty much called a dumb ass for buying the dress in the first place. this girl is a fail, please let me tell you why i believe this: her unsavory and downright fraudulent business practices make me sick. the proven facts have all been laid out before, so i don't need to repeat them. yes, she may be "laughing all the way to the bank" as she says on her incredibly fake "oooh, i'm trying to come off as such a nice person blog" but u know what xenia? you may have money, but the way you made it is despicable. what a wretched fraud! i applaud the true entrepreneurs
out there, particularly in the fashion/music/cosmetics industries who have made it with integrity. yes, money is the bottom line, and i'm sure many of those i admire have needed to do something they're not altogether proud of here and there. after all, that's the way the business is, like it or not. but a straight-up con ike xenia should be ashamed of herself.
