SMOKE AND MIRROR

SMOKE AND MIRROR

Can kohl - and the popular "smoky eye" - be dark brown?

If skulls are the fashion trend that won't die, then smoky eyes are their beauty equivalent.  Referenced constantly in pop culture and high fashion, the  makeup fad can be grungy, glamorous, or retro - and done a million different ways.

Enter Guerlain, the French beauty company on a terracotta kick.  Their obsession with the Italian clay has already birthed a shimmery bronze lip gloss and a pearly bronzer.

Now they've infused their Kohl eyeliner with the same stuff,  creating a terracotta powder that can smoke out your eyes with a rich but subtle shade of brown.  It's a different kind of look, but one that's easy to pull off with a few minutes in the mirror, and without the goth undertones a stark black liner can sometimes create.

The new Kohl sells for $35, and only retails through Spring.  If you're looking to update your look, without overhauling your style, this could be a very good way to go.

tatiana, i totally agree. i'm too fair-skinned to pull off the black smoky eye look, i've been doing brown, purple, or navy blue forever! very chic.

I don't think I could pull off a brown, but blue, purple and green definitely. I've also done a bronze to gold and gray to silver because I like to mix similar colors to keep interest.

Nothing wrong with Brown Smokiness. I do it all the time in different colors including brown, such as purple, blue, dark green mix, dark rose mix, etc.
