KATY PERRY - OFF THE CHARTS

Katy Perry is our March cover girl!

Spring fashion is cooler and quirkier than ever, so who better to front our March style issue than Katy Perry, the pop tart with a twist.  Besides being a talented singer and songwriter, she's educated, thoughtful, and creates her scandals through lyrics, not tabloid covers.

Executive editor Stephanie Trong sat down with Ms. Perry in Los Angeles last month.  Below, some highlights.

On her changing fashion aesthetic:
"Some of the kid shit I've grown out of completely...  I'm taking it out of the Shirley Temple, Betty Boop, Lichtenstein kind of thing.  It's still fun, but a bit darker.  It's not as annoying.  Sometimes, I feel like a big strawberry with a face on it."

On her changing music:
"Sometimes I really feel like I'm more of a Taylor Swift... Love has really affected my songwriting.  I know how to handle a man now."

About I Kissed a Girl:
"It was never meant to be a Girls Gone Wild song.  It was meant to be fun, sweet, cute, kind of tongue in cheek... but now I'm comfortable with saying, 'Actually, I've been with a woman.'"

The Best Quote Ever, From Katy's Mom:
"She's like, 'Yeah, I dated Jimi Hendrix for a hot second.''

Ok, fine! This passes because I think she has a cool and unique fashion sense, but I'm still starting to like NYLON less and less.... It's really bead when your 11 year old disney-crazed sister begs to borrow more then one issue. If I see another Pop princess, disney washup, or vampire wannabe on the cover i'm going to have to find a new magazine.....

i agree with k. i mean, i get that you want to attract more readers with a hip new actor/actress/singer and make more money, but in doing so, u are losing diehard fans. and, you should question whether or not those fans are worth the mainstream little wannabe picking up NYLON only because of the cover, and not what you stand for.

i agree with K and Emily 100%. these are all really cool people that youre featuring on your cover, but if i only read magazines for the mainstream disney pop star interviews i'd be reading seventeen or something. nylon is unique because of the indie and lesser-known things you feature, and your covers should be representive of that.

Can't wait to see this issue in my mailbox! Oh NYLON..your cover choices always brighten up my day<3 Katy Perry is legit!

This magazine is slowly slowly becoming Seventeen magazine. It used to be so edgy and alternative. What happened?

Ok, I think Katy Perry is definitely better than having Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton on the cover, but what ever happened to putting hot women like Karen O on the front?

Monica

i'm also going to have to jump on the bandwagon of disapproval here. when i read that katy was going to be the cover girl for march, my head literally sunk in disappointment. what an awful birthday present! i remember when i got my first NYLON and how thrilled i was to have something that wasn't teen vogue or seventeen. now i can't see the difference. i want to see cover girls that inspire, that i want to read about, not ones that who's lives i here about all the time on the tv and internet. come on, nylon. i know you have something better. don't make me regret my subscription.

yasmin

02/15/2010

this is not the way to get more readers or whatever. Nylon was never a mainstream magazine and you shouldn't start now- its fashion week; you definately should have picked a model for the job; Chanel Iman, Agyness Deyn any model. Plus Deyn and Chanel Iman have amazing style and they are defiantely cool enough for nylon....

yasmin

I'm dying... I just googled how the cover would look like and praying there was no a strand on pink in sight... and the cover HAD TO BE covered in pink. From the title of the mag, to the font colour, to the whole wardrobe of Katy Perry. definately dissapointed... and I might have to move on to another mag. Nylon is going way down hill. Its like my Bible has converted. (link to pic of cover) http://forums.thefashionspot.com/f78/nylon-march-2010-katy-perry-96255.html

02/15/2010

NYLON, I´m getting disappointed and bored... I definitely agree with everyone else here: this is getting to much teen vogue, seventeen like. I thought Nylon is a more indipendent, smart & creative magazine...? then please no more Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton. I see them on every other gossip magazine cover.

mewgan

02/15/2010

its an upgrade! better cover than there has been lately. im pulling for a carey mulligan or jemina pearl cover!!!!

ALOT BETTER THAN HILARY AND LINDSAY! love katy perry so much. she has such a sense of humor, and her style is wicked.

Jordan

02/15/2010

I'm going to also add my two cents here. NYLON, you are great but slipping away a bit. Mainstream artists are good and I'm happy for their success but it is true that more unknown, alternative driven people should grace the covers. There are so many talented and inspiring young girls out there right now in the creative world that should be featured for their individuality, like Juliette Lewis or Carey mulligan, or singers like laura marling or new bands! i would rather pick up a magazine with a new or unknown talent than someone whose already been on the covers. People who i feel i relate to so much more. i want to feel connected.

02/15/2010

Amazing shoot..

yasmin

02/15/2010

I agree with Jordan. I'm constantly commenting because I'm 100% annoyed with the situation- a year and a half ago you had people like Mischa Barton and Johansson and they may be in the tabloids most of the times however, the covers were AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!! now they are pink and flirty and 100% girly and not rock n roll with awesome people like Chanel Iman or awesome bands you feature on the website nearly ever fortight... Nylon definately needs a shape up, in my opinion.

Alex

02/15/2010

Katy Perry, seriously. She's so 2008. What happened to your artsy covers, all i see now is pink princess covers with pouty faced Celebs. Please, please, please go back to be awesomely unpredictable.

iza

02/15/2010

Can't waitto buy it and read the whole interview!!! I love Katy so much!!

Smile

02/15/2010

Why? I mean yeah Katy Perry is one of the better teen pop idols but NYLON, why are you considering putting any of them on your cover? I love reading about the people I don't hear about 24/7. I love seeing what different girls you put on your covers wear. I know what Katy Perry wears. I saw it on the cover of seventeen, cosmopolitan, and US weekly. This is completely disappointing. Last week it was some show on MTV, now it's some pop singer. Who next NYLON? Miley Cyrus? I love you to pieces but you're breaking my heart. Please stay original.

Lucyinthesky

02/15/2010

3 hearts, okay, just because katy perry is pretty damn cool. But NYLON...you are not. I have this gigantic stack of NYLONs (that go as far back as 2002) that take up a significant amount of space on my bookshelf. I find myself re-reading OLD issues more than ever lately because you guys have changed SOO much... your cover girls, layout (for CHRISSAKES! you used to look outtathisworld! now it looks like you just can't be bothered to be creative), even our arcticles...you used to have random, interesting reads in BEAUTYQUEEN...now it's like reading pages of ads. I used to be so excited when a new issue came out, i mean i would just tear through it and read it cover-to-cover. I feel almost as if i'm outgrowing you. Also, you must read these posts (don't you??)... clearly, you know what your readers are asking for, yet i don't see any change. This is exactly why i', not renewing my subcription this year.

Emmie

02/15/2010

Nylon(!) I know everybody keeps saying this, but I agree. Not that Katy Perry's the worst you could do but, please go back to putting amazing people I'd never even have heard about otherwise in my conservative community on the cover. Please? It may be my only hope of growing up awesome!!!

rave

02/15/2010

ummm....i love katy perry..but do understand where people are coming from...im excited for this issue

stephanie

02/16/2010

I like Katy Perry and so im pretty excited for this issue...

Larisa Karr

02/16/2010

This is a commercially convenient and predictable choice. Please NYLON, what made your magazine so alluring was the thrill in trying to guess who the next cover girl was and being completely wrong and delightfully surprised. Now, we just have to turn on MTV or the CW and select from their pools of talent. What happened?

Michelle M.

02/16/2010

I have to laugh at those overreacting. How old are you all, that you would act so pretentious over a magazine? It's just a magazine, and reading it doesn't make you special.

stefanie

02/16/2010

agreed with k. definitely.

marina

02/16/2010

I agree with all of you in disapproval. I wonder if Nylon reads all of our comments... they need to take in consideration to what we're saying. I don't think they get it. seriously, Karen O was one of the greatest choices. get new comers like Carey Mulligan on the cover! at least some respected actresses. the photos of Katy are great, though. she's a tad bit refreshing for the pop culture scene.

Linx

02/16/2010

Nylon, Seventeen, vogue, glamour... They are all the same. Nylon's a different genre. Please Keep it up. Katy Perry is too cliche. Agyness Deyn or MIA for next time would be so interesting and inspiring!

jessica

02/16/2010

well, katy perry is at least a little better than hilary duff, paris hilton and lindsay lohan, so i hope that this is a sign of nylon getting back to the way it was before, again. and the march cover is not as ordinary as the covers the last couple of months have been. but for the april issue, i would really like alexa chung or agyness deyn on the cover. i don't want more mainstream tv stars as cover girls. and maybe you could get an interview with the kooks? they are going to release a new album and go on a tour in america next summer, you know. i would really like that.

jessica

02/16/2010

oh, and i almost forgot that taylor momsen would be great as a cover girl for nylon, as well. although she is a tv "star", she's still not mainstream. and, we can never get tired of sienna miller, can we?

Viktoria

02/16/2010

Katy Perry deserves so much to be on the Nylon Cover. She's unique just as the magazine showing her face on its cover. Katy is talented and has gone trough a lot until she got success, she deserves everything she gets now, being cover girl of the march issue as well. I adore the shoot. Thanks Nylon, can't wait to read the whole interview

jessica

02/16/2010

silver in 90210 would also be great as a cover girl, when i think about it. that is, if she really is as cool as she seems in the first season of the show.

Vee

02/16/2010

I really like katy perry, not so much her music, but she's really cool. Hopefully this issue will be better than the hilary duff issue god that was probily the worst issue. Also please do and issue on abbey lee kershaw, I love her and maybe daisy lowe they are the best models ever, as well as lara stone :D

Kenzie

02/16/2010

ummm, shut up about agreeing with K. This is so perfect, it's fashion!

rose

02/16/2010

yaay I love her! :)

jessica

02/16/2010

willa holland should be on a cover in 2010. she's amazing.

Kaya

02/16/2010

Personally, I love both Katy Perry and Nylon, and while most people are agreeing with 'K' and that Nylon is definitely an alternative type of magazine, sometimes things are going to be different. I don't get why everyone is so upset about the coverstar when the rest of the magazine will be just as awesome as it always is, surely if they don't want to read about Katy Perry they can just skip the few pages of her that there are? Whatever, those are just my two cents, I'll still love Nylon no matter who the cover star is!

geezMSAZ

02/16/2010

i definitly agree with many commenters, NYLON can definitly turn it up a notch on finding neater coverstars. I grew up a fan of Hillary Duff, but that is mega Disney and old. Vampire Diaries, ehh, not so much..but the rest of the issue was enjoyable. and Katy Perry, she's not that bad, but there's already enough of her on other wack attack magazines. point be, i agree with Kaya, I'll still love NYLON no matter who the cover star is. The Rest of the magzine is always RAD. ViVA NYLON!

jesica

02/16/2010

i'm so glad there is an out pouring of NYLON crit right now! I've been reading since 2001 and i used to LOVE the off-the-beaten-road girls and stories. Now Blake Lively is on the cover non stop and bull shit talent like Katy Perry and Megan Fox are girls we should care about? No thanks NYLON.

tina

02/16/2010

Screw it. I love Katy Perry. Pop music is not the devil. She's interesting, she's outspoken, she's headstrong, and I think it's incredibly ignorant and elitist to completely discard the relevance and value of an artist and their aesthetic just because they get played on top 40 radio. When Taylor Swift gets a cover, maybe I'll complain.

Hena

02/16/2010

It's Katy Perry on Nylon. Get over it.

paperdoll

02/16/2010

Cute shoot. I personally like Katy Perry, but yeah, I was pretty bored with the last magazine & annoyed with the cover choice. Almost as annoyed as I was to see Hilary friggin' Duff on the cover. Gross. But hey, you can't please everyone.

Ciara सी वी

02/16/2010

Katy Perry is awesome but its time to put some newer and less known artists on the Nylon cover. Florence Walsh from Florence and The Machine would be amazing. Please Nylon!!

Madyson

02/16/2010

Nice, Katy Perry's style never seems to lets me down. Come on, give her a chance:)

wendyalexandra

02/16/2010

Yeah...Nylon. I really like Katy Perry for her style and I may buy this issue, but cut the vampire crap. P-L-E-A-S-E! February 2010? I didnt read the cover story at all...

Megan

02/16/2010

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! What the f*ck is happening to Nylon?? Hilary Duff, Vampire Diaries, and now this? I keep on thinking that you're going to redeem yourself, but you don't. She & Him are coming out with a new album in March. What about them?

e

02/17/2010

02/17/2010

ohh yesss!! it's realy good!!

Alley

02/17/2010

Although Katy Perry isn't the worst choice, I'm starting to agree with everyone else. The last 6 months of covers have not really portrayed the content in Nylon. I still love reading the magazine, but I don't see the parallel between choices like Hilary Duff for "Indie Spotlight" issue (?????) or putting every poster girl for a vampire-inspired show on the cover (Kristen Stewart from Twilight, Anna Paquin from True Blood, and now Nina Dobrev from Vampire Diaries). Nylon would do well to consider putting the talent they feature in the magazine on the cover, like the amazing indie bands they feature. That's just one person's opinion though.

Mi Doll

02/17/2010

I agree with most of the people here. Katy Perry too? Wtf? Why not somebody cooler and less well-known - somebody interesting? Love Nylon - was expecting much better covers.

S

02/17/2010

Katy Perry was over before she began, especially for anyone over the age of 12. You've let me down - again - NYLON. I give up!

Oy vey

02/17/2010

truly uninspired NYLON. it's like you're not even trying anymore.

Nicole

02/17/2010

lol, the fact that you also put "studs, bows, spikes" on your cover is the cherry on top. I'm just gonna agree with pretty much everybody else.

Amy

02/17/2010

This makes me glad i ended my subscription in December. Thank god I didn't pay to see another overrated young celeb be put on the cover. I miss the old NYLON!!! :(

sufi

02/17/2010

I agree with all the girls above me what happend nylon? you lost your alternative edge...ever since paris hilton graced the cover i stop renewing my subscriptions.I occasionlly check out the nylon mall and beauty articles but theres never anything special.

Chelsea

02/17/2010

Three cheers for Nylon FINALLY having a decent cover girl. I agree with everyone else, though. Whuddup with all the Disney pop princesses?

Katy Perry. Really, Nylon? Really??

Ashley

02/18/2010

Dear Nylon, I just want you to know that your magazine now sucks balls. It's just not at all what It used to be, you've gone down hill since disgusting people like Kristen Stewart and Hillary Duff are on your cover. I understand Kristen Stewart bc of the Twilight bullshit, but she doesnt deserve to be on Nylon. More Like Seventeen or something lame like that. Ewww, Im really embarrased for what you have become. I will NEVER buy another one of your magazines. Shame, shame.

Casey

02/18/2010

You're all being far too pretentious. Yes, they should feature more of the lesser known stars, that's for sure, but featuring a more mainstream covergirl doesn't make the entire magazine crap. Personally, I loved the February cover, but Nylon should definitely try to make them the exception rather than what seems to be the new trend for the magazine. As for the current cover, maybe it should've been Zooey Deschanel instead. She looks like Katy Perry, but is cooler.

Sarena

02/18/2010

I can handle the occasional mainstream artist. Hell, I even like a lot of them. However, I admire Nylon for it's indie vibe, and I don't see it reflected in it's recent covers. I didn't even bother buying the last issue because I was already disapointed in seeing Hilary Duff last time, only to be further disapointed by that weird Vampire crap that is more fitting for seventeen or Teen Vogue. I'm seriously considering switching to a different magazine, and I think many are too, if you guys don't go back to your roots.

Karen

02/18/2010

I completely agree with Sarena's post because at times I enjoy seeing and reading about mainstream artists in an indie format but perhaps this format has been taken too far. Maybe former cover girl Alison Mosshart (of The Kills)would tour with Katy Perry, but I hardly doubt it. Maybe that should be the new litmus test? If they can rock it with The Kills, The Duke Spirit and She & Him then maybe (MAYBE) she or he deserves the cover.

Karen

02/18/2010

Just a side note: I will freak out if Taylor Swift is a Nylon Cover girl.

cynthesizer

02/18/2010

Boooo. I'm just gonna fork out the extra dollars to buy i-D. booooo. Nah, I'm still going to read it. But Nylon, really, if you love me at all,... let's skip over the pop tarts and relish in the finer pastries, like Natalie Portman, or perhaps Sherri/Stacy Dupree. No offense to Katy Hudson ...errr, Perry. She seems to be a fine young lady.

Marti.

02/18/2010

I love this Jeremy Scott jacket.

stephanie

02/18/2010

Agreed with Karen and Sarena. I miss that distinct indie vibe that only NYLON has. Please feature people who are more deserving of this cover such as Karen O.

Katy Perry is a good choice for the cover, she seems like a really cool and interesting person and she has great fashion (^_^). I don't think that she deserves all of the bad things that we say about her, just because she writes over popular songs (which can get pretty annoying) doesn't mean that she doesn't deserve to be the cover girl of Nylon. That's my honest opinion. I <3 you Nylon!

Fleur

02/18/2010

Dear Nylon, Shape up or I'll ship out. I agree with alot of the comments above - this is not the same magazine I fell in love with years ago. Regretting my subscription... come April, I hope I'll have a reason not to.

Samantha

02/18/2010

I cancelled my subscription not because I was unhappy with the direction that Nylon was heading in but because it was already there. Goodbye indie hello mainstream :( Fact is, mainstream is alot more marketable and profitable than true indie - it's a sad, sad world.

Sophia

02/18/2010

Really? Katy perry? I'm seriously getting more and more dissapointed. What happened to having great artists like Lily Allen, Karen O? Or having great actresses like Zooey? Please tell someone better will come along soon!

I think this bickering back and forth of who deserves to be on a Nylon cover and who is mainstream and what-not is pathetic. I think Nylon knows what it stands for and who is good enough to grace their cover. Katy Perry is a fine choice - variety is good. If you are really dedicated to the magazine in the first place, it should not matter who is the cover star.

Katy Perry, really? Yeah she's cool, but how about the Vivian Girls or another indie band?

i think everyone's already said everything i wanted to say. katy perry, talented and thoughtful? i am sorry, but the girl is simply uninspiring and annoying.

02/20/2010

so at first i was like 'err, katy perry?' a bit kinda teen trashy mag but heeey, i've never really liked her music because it was too 'trying to be different/in your face/quirky' ect & i didnt really get it. but it seems as though sh's grown up a bit, maybe her music will too? i'll be interested to read :)

ROISIN

02/20/2010

oh nylon. when will you stop putting these unoriginal stars on your covers? i already know who they are, and frankly, i don't care that much. please. i know you can do better.

M

02/21/2010

i agree i sorta stooped reading your magazine because the people in the cover are not the same as they use to be and your magazine is not as creative and great as when i first began reading nylon, your magazine was one of my favorite for it had interesting stories and coverage about people not seen in one of those mainstreams or teen mags but now i'm just disappointed and glad i stopped my subscription with you guys.

I think y'all need to think of better people for your covers. Nylon is slowly turning into something commercial and predictable. Where is the fashion? Katy Perry, Hillary duff? I mean come on Nylon, please be everyone's favorite magazine and STEP IT UP!! It's Fashion Week and you choose Katy Perry? Ridiculous. I know I am not the only one who disagrees. Do an interesting issue again.

Lisa

02/22/2010

I think Katy Perry would of been a great choice a year ago.

alexis

02/23/2010

i have to that ive only been reading nylon a little while but from what ive seen you have lost your touch i used to pick up your magazine and admire the girls on the cover. yuou should try putting women of color on the cover for example teyana taylor. or vv brown get some info on those who arent so mainstream && ones that everyone has an obsession with. im not knocking the mag i just feel its best to stay original. come on NYLON you can do it.!

02/23/2010

i don't know, it's a mix emotion for me. i'm not a katy perry fan, but i don't dislike her either. i first started reading nylon when paris hilton was on the cover, but not for paris hilton. it was for everything else in the magazine. i understand people's grievances for some of the cover choices, but i would like to believe nylon still stays true by what they cover and write about in the magazine. as years go by, things change. people change. also, NYLON CHANGES. they keep up with the times, and not even to offend the die-hards or the newcomers. so i think people need to take a breather. also, it's a magazine, of course they need to put well-known faces. i have never been disappointed thus far, and i hope i never will because since reading nylon, i've learned so much about so many actors and musicians and cities, and they ended up being a lot more interesting to me than before. sorry for the long rant, but i just had to say something loll.

Katy Perry's cute and all but come on. I like to learn about interesting and talented people from this magazine. Not blown up pop stars that can't write lyrics to save their life. This magazine is progressively getting lamer and lamer. If you put Miley Cyrus or any other disney star, anyone from any MTV show, or another washed up star like Hilary Duff I'm canceling my subscription. Better yet, I'll stop having nylonmag.com as my homepage and throw out all the collages I've made with all your magazines i've collected. Get cool again. thanks.

Oh and if Ke$ha is on a cover, I'll probably cry of disappointment. Marion Cotillard FTW.

I agree with Alex completely. While Katy Perry is hot and talented, there are so many more musicians that deserve to grace the cover. When you put Paris and Megan Fox on your covers, you're losing cred with the readers because celebrities like them get TOO MUCH publicity.I think you should make a comeback with Lily Cole on the next cover, she was AWESOME in Dr.Parnassus <3 Ciao

I just wanted to say that I love Nylon but I think you should put more diversity on your covers. Like black women such as: Chanel Iman, Santogold, and jamelle monae. Or even women of different shapes like Adele, Beth Ditto.

Emma

02/27/2010

I LOVE THIS! alot better than your recent shitty coverstars... please put some fresh faces on the cover: carey mulligan, florence & the machine, marina & the diamonds etc!? seriously, it wouldnt surprise me if i saw demi lovato on the next cover

THIS IS GROSS! NYLON IS TRASH NOW AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT. SUCKS REALLY BECAUSE I AM SUBSCRIBED AND NOW I FEEL IT IS A WASTE OF PAPER. AND IF YOU PUT THAT TALENTLESS UFFIE BOOTLEG KESHA ON THERE THE MIGHT AS WELL PUT PARIS HILTON ON THE COVER. OH WAIT YOU DID! PITTY.

Katy Perry <3 haters gunna hate, katy perry is the most attractive women in the world. You people whining are just doing so because you're either jealous, or want to be a part of the magazine because ITS SO AWESOME BECAUSE IT ISNT MAINSTREAM. Get the f*** over yourselves.

Nylon, please stop doing this! You have so much potential that just shines through in the fashion spreads and music choices, but no one is really going to appreciate all of your elements is going to want to pick your magazine up with Katy Perry on the cover. Every issue gets worse and worse when it comes to the cover girls...and you've gotten enough complaints from your true fans to know better. Put Charlotte Gainsburg on the cover, or another female singer/actress who is not suffocated by the limelight, and stop using these talentless women. Come on, Nylon. Before you lose all of your dedicated fans.

This past week, I was on a mission to pick up the new Nylon issue because I hadn't bothered to read it in months. And it was an investment cause I'm broke and 5 bucks is worth a lot..but I didn't care. So there I am, searching the racks... and I see Katy Perry on the cover. My insides basically collapsed in horror and I walked out without the issue. I didn't even flip through it. This? After Hillary Duff? And yet another Blake Lively cover? WTF, Nylon.

yet ANOTHER ridiculously famous celeb shot in super high contrast and a pathetic attempt at "edgy" clothes. surprise, surprise. listen to your readers, nylon, if you don't want a reputation as a teenybopper mag. for the love of god, would it be so difficult to put someone like joanna newsom on your covers? relevant, hip, but still accessible to the public. (by the way, already canceled my subscription. i wouldn't stock my bathroom with it even if it was free.)

become a subscriber and get NYLON early? I'm a subscriber and my march issue STILL hasn't come yet :(

It would be cool for those of us who miss the old nylon if we could subscribe to a year of back issues. I have every issue since 2007 and would gladly pay the current subscribing price for a years worth of nylon from 2004 or something. They are too expensive on ebay for just one issue. A lot of magazines are struggling now, so I think nylon could make a lot more money from their loyal readers by offering that option.

Charla

03/04/2010

meh. Its not like i'm going to stop reading nylon, but katy perry? really? if you're going t do a pop star, get gaga. PLEASE get gaga.

Mi Doll

03/04/2010

Yes. :x Totally agree with Charla. Gaga (Lady Gaga) was the only pop star I ever liked. I still love Nylon though.

I totally agree with everyone else. What happened to Zooey Deschanel and the like? Why have Paris Hilton Hilary Duff, and VAMPIRE DIARIES been gracing your cover? Honestly, it's just embarassing. Katy Perry is at least a little better than your other choices, but she is still a Seventeen cover girl, which automatically skyrockets her out of Nylon's league. At least, it should.

julia

03/07/2010

Oh, and I forgot. PLEASE no more Gossip Girl and Blake Lively, and more Evan Rachel Wood/Lady Gaga/ The Pierces (ESPECIALLY the Pierces)

gosh Nylon USA's cover is so boring and bland; typical pink, yellow and neon blue. the mexican issue with kemp muhlwas awesome... totally unique and chic.

I don't think Katy Perry is all that bad but I don't think she's all that great either. I'll agree that i've been dissapointed with the covers lately (Blake Lively, Hilary Duff, Nina Dobrev) but it won't stop me from reading the other articles in the mag. Nylon i love you but please start being indie again, more women like Karen O.

Very cute wardrobe. K reminds me of Zooey Deschanel in a way. You guys may agree or disagree. I think it may be the the haircut and complexion. But nonetheless, K rocks the front cover of this Nylon.

Katy Perry? I already wrote this magazine asking for them to do a story on this amazing artist called Ophelia Clark and the art movement she helped start in my home town. She's not famous, or Lindsey Lohan but geez...instead I see KATY PERRY? How about a smart, cool (not - cool because I can afford a stylist..) woman who's a REAL artist??? Enough with the disney like everyone else said.

CS

03/17/2010

This is horrible. Katy Perry? Seriously Nylon? You're loosing your die hard readers with this type of feature writing. We want on the street in the moment intelligent fun - not a Pop Tart as you refer to her. Her lyrics are stupid not quirky and her music plan SUCKS. Katy Perry doesn't even know who she is and gives the impression of an immature cash cow. Where are the REAL artists and people trying to make a difference- there are plenty of them for you to cover no this fake baby doll stuff. Shame on you, Nylon.

Larisa

03/23/2010

Grace Slick was the original badass. Katy Perry resembles her feature-wisebut comes nowhere near to her talent. Not that this has anything to do with Nylon's cover. Oh, maybe it does. STOP. SELLING. OUT.
