GOOD LISTENER

GOOD LISTENER

It's finally the weekend - here are five ways to celebrate.

Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"
Best song of the naughts (one of many similarly themed lists coming at you as we near 2010) according to Rolling Stone. Discuss.

Esben and the Witch - "Marching Song"
This excellently named goth-rock band—their moniker a reference to a morbid Danish fairy tale—hails from Brighton, England. Singer Rachael Davies bears an otherworldly voice that floats every-so-melodically over the moody guitars and rumbling drums. Also, they should totally tour with SALEM.

Local Natives - "Sun Hands"
L.A.'s Local Natives is a world-music tinged, beat-driven group with a predisposition for harmonies, a sound that's been compared to the work of Grizzly Bear and Fleet Foxes. If that's your cup of tea, you'll like dig "Sun Hands," a crescendo-ing, chant-y salutation to daylight.

Jónsi - "Boy Lilikoi"
In addition to being superfun to say, "Boy Lilikoi" is the majestic first single off the new solo album from Sigur Ros frontman, Jónsi Birgisson. Terrifically uplifting, the track also features soaring orchestration from composer Nico Muhly.

Mos Def - "Supermagic"
The crazy genius of this song comes courtesy of producer Oh No, who samples from ’70s Turkish folkie Selda Bagcan. Def, meanwhile, deftly spits out raps lines like, "Super magic black origin, freshly out of dopeness/Definitely out of dopeness, sketch another opus."
