Does Shepard Fairey ever sleep?
He makes iconic posters for presidential campaigns, designs cool new jeans for Levi’s, and plasters his graphic images on walls (legally or otherwise) for bored commuters.
This holiday season is no different—the artist teamed up with charitybuzz to auction off his latest design, “Defend Equality Love Unites”, in support of LGBT rights. But this time, he’s getting a bit of help. Fifty-four of his posters have been personalized by a slew of celebrities, ranging from the cast of 30 Rock to the boys of New Kids on the Block.
Some feature just a scribble of a signature, but most go beyond that. Kirsten Dunst painted nail polish onto the fist’s fingers, Milo Ventimiglia replaced the image of the fist with a photograph of an actual one, and Jonathan Adler colored it in with psychedelic prints to help you match the poster to your pillows.
Between now and December 16, you can place a bid on your favorite posters, with all proceeds going to FAIR, Fairey’s charity that raises funds and awareness for marriage equality. It’s not cheap—but then again, the fight for equal rights has never been easy. And once it’s achieved, maybe Fairey will actually take a break and go on a much-deserved vacation.
