We get a lot of sneakers sent to the NYLON office (in fact, this morning we counted 34 pairs in the fashion closet, and five in Marvin's office). So for a kick to impress us, it has to be really special, really different, and really cool.
The sneakers from Osborn Design are all of those things. Sold at the Brooklyn Flea, the shoes are created by Carla Venticinque-Osborn and Aaron Osborn, who use only fair trade fabrics, factories, and materials to put them together.
Some of the patterns - based on native tribal prints - aren't for the faint of heart, but if you can't handle a pair of purple zig-zag jazz shoes, there are plenty of low-top sneakers in red gingham or liberty-print florals to balance them out.
The shoes go for $65 - $130, and since the designs are extremely limited, you can rest assured your friends (or enemies) won't be wearing the same pair you covet.
