There's a lot to be said for golden hair - it pops up in Greek mythology, in Grimm's Fairy Tales, and in every episode of
The City.
And yet, actual gilded hair is kind of elusive, especially the shiny, magical kind we see in Disney cartoons. But Frederic Fekkai gives it his best shot with a new treatment, called "Golden Shimmer Gelee Mist."
The salon sent us a bottle, and we tried it out, with the following results:
The product is mercifully light, without the usual stick and stench of real hairspray. It's loaded with coconut oil for extra shine (and beachy smell), and it's easy to pump and spray.
The problem comes if you're expecting your mane to transform into the
coif of Disco Ball Barbie. Fekkai's shimmer is very mild, and will do more to tame and smooth flyaway hair than turn it into a glitter nest.
One welcome side effect: On skin, this stuff is amazing - not sticky, but sufficiently sparkled and golden. Usually, spraying hair stuff on your face is a rotten, idea, but in this case - oops! - a few squirts on your cheeks and shoulders could give you the subtle sparkle that most makeups cannot.
