People keep trying to say "Pac Man is back," but the reality is, it never went away. After '80s arcades shut down, you could play it on Atari. After computers overshadowed Nintendo, you could play it online. After your eyes got fuzzy and tired, you could turn off the machines and watch live Pac Man homages at the Giles Deacon runway show, or in the Pac Man flash mobs that flooded college campuses (
and resulted in priceless YouTube videos like this).
Now it seems the game has come full circle, as Pac Man brings back their old-school version, complete with a Joy Stick, a slot for double-a batteries, and those crazy little ghosts.
The only difference? You plug the system directly into your TV set instead of sliding quarters into a gaming slot. The toy goes for $40, and is compatible with most televisions, and most kids born between 1980 and 1995. You can
order it now on Fred Flare.
