BOYE CRAZY

BOYE CRAZY

Mary Kate and Ashley have a secret weapon: NYLON's own Spacey Tracy!

This morning, we got an email surprise: A video of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's new collection for JC Penney, called Olsen Boye.

Besides showing bits of the collection, which goes live online November 9, the video stars a familiar face modeling the clothes: NYLON's own Spacey Tracy!

Check out the whole production below, and after you get over the shock of seeing Tracy with clean and combed hair and a giant smile on her face, let us know - are these clothes Olsen-worthy?

blahh. another celebrity line. same. every. time. celebs who have great style make a clothing line of walmart style trash and attach their name to it.

to ZOOEYGRACE, I don't think you can dismiss the Olsens into the "Celebrity Line" category. They are CFDA members who have run two successful high end labels which the fashion community have embraced. This is their second foray into an affordable collection (the first being their tween walmart brand) but I'm sure you can see they are coming from a more mature designers perspective. This collection is not Elizabeth + James, nor is it The Row, it's an affordable department store line for JCPenny, in order for it to sell it has to please the masses. It's all business.

Wow, I am so disappointed. They are so much better than that line. It's the same kind of things you can find anywhere. I would love to see an affordable, unique celeb line for once!

Vintage & retro style has now become trendy. ie. Urban Outfitters, Forever 21's new "Heritage 1981" line, which is the diametric opposite of what the idea of thrifting is about. It's like the $25,000 Gandhi pen...that's the exact opposite of what he stood for. And corporate America has keyed into the thrifting idea that many people have so that they don't have to look like the people that shop in the malls for $50 shirts and $100 jeans. So they can create their own unique style. A style that is now being hacked, massed produced, and distributed... which promotes the constant dumbing down of our culture. Why go thrifting when you can find all the retro/vintage style that you want without having to sort through racks of clothing, and creativity, don't worry we'll do it for you!!! I hate it. And I hope I expressed myself in a way that is understandable and coherent. I hope that I can inspire with this comment.

I agree with 'zooeygrace'. Seriously, a sweatshirt and a flannel.. no big deal? I can find that at Goodwill. Although I like those brown oxfords.. that's all that caught my eye. I could create a better line than this. It looks cheap..

erinjoelle

10/26/2009

PS; I bet neither Mary-Kate or Ashley would walk out of the house wearing any of this.

Lindsey

10/26/2009

I agree with erinjoelle. MKA would never wear these clothes. I like the shoes and hat, but that is it. The clothes look so cheap! I was excited when my friend told me about this brand, but I'm not impressed... I don't understand why MKA made this brand. I'm really the most disappointed by the "peace signs" on the clothing. This is not my cup of tea. This is almost tacky!

Lindsey

10/26/2009

Ps: I know that they have to make a line that the masses would like, but I guess I was expecting something more "MKA style". But.. this is just JCP, so I understand.

erinjoelle, its called the "indie" style. And from what Ive seen Mary Kate wheres those clothes. No its not from goodwill, but its probably from urban outfitters.

Just like the i ♥ ronson stuff at jcp you kinda have to dig a little to find some gems but in the end it's worth it! i might get one of those super loose tee's or maybe a grey hoodie

Krislyn

10/26/2009

honestly, i'm kind of disappointed. :( i wouldn't wear these clothes (with the exception of maybe the jeans and/or blazer), and i doubt MK & A would be caught dead wearing any of this. they're so much better than that... yet they won't share their creativity for an affordable price. charlotte ronson did a much better job. and even then, some of her pieces were still yucky.

I am very disappointed. All of the clothes look so generic and just poorly designed. I understand the fact that it is for JC Penney but I expected better design and patterns.

I love the twins. They r so rad and I grew up with them, im so happy that they r finely coming out wish something our age..but I can't see them wearing any of this? Maybe the peace sign but it doesnt look like their style. But im happy they decided to do something! Love ya nylon<3

I'm incredibly disappointed. I hope people don't buy some of this stuff just because the Olsen name is attached to it. I see a few cute things, but a lot of it is stuff that you can already find, and not want to buy, at JC Penny. I don't really see anything original or worth buying over something else

Nikki

10/26/2009

i am horrified. cheap, boring, un-stlyish, tacky, un-original, totally un-cute. looks like it was made for 12 year old girls with little to no fashion sense whatsoever. i would never be caught dead wearing any of these items and i don't think that mary kate or ashley would be caught dead wearing any of it either.

Lauren

I agree w zooeygrace and erinjolle, it looks like clothes that are already in the teen depot of jcpenny or Walmart. Ugly cheap looking crap that no real fashionista would wear. its easy to make cute clothes for a good price (ie forever 21, h&m). This is very dissappointing

so sad. the olsens are the few "cleb designers" that actually turn it out. this looks so cheap and not very high style. I understand that a J.C.Penney line needs to be as buyer friendly as possible but this is not worthy of the olsen name.

Natalie

10/26/2009

I work at JCP so again for the I <3 Ronson line like someone said above it does take some to look for something good and different. Those brown oxfords definitely caught my eye since I've been looking for some all over the place. HELLO DISCOUNT!

Alice

10/27/2009

Not a fan of the vid, but thanks for the Look book pages. The silhouettes look pretty basic, but that is where MK+A work their magic. I have a few pieces from The Row and Elizabeth&James and the pieces can SEEM basic but the quality is far from. I can't judge clothes until I feel them in person (i'm a textiles snob) but...idk about JCP? I think this is a line they actually could wear. Except, you know add a Chanel 2.55, Louboutins, a vintage Prada hat, some sunglasses ...the usual.

Natasha

10/27/2009

it is so disappointing to know that people who have strived to be creative and unique are now a stereotype because of clothing collections like this one. "Indie" was a style that very few people captured, but now that anyone can purchase look-a-like clothes at department stores, there's not as much joy in finding that perfect flannel while thrifting. such a shame that, just like everything else, it's all overrated and not to mention, overdone.

Melanie

10/27/2009

I have brown oxfords exactly like those. I win. P.s. The video is cute. Clothes? Not so much.

bella

10/27/2009

really disappointed. like a few others have said, you can find similar things at Goodwill. for less too. I can't see pulling any pieces together and looking the slightest bit unique.

I have to agree with the general consensus above. People will market anything with a celebrity name on it. I get the whole selling quality design and a low cost, but look at Target. At least they use credible designers with talent - sorry MK & A.

I am a huge fan of Mary-kate Olsen-she is my favorite! But what I can't understand is why she won't come out with an awesome line of vintage wear, she has such an ecletic sense of style herself, why not sell it! I'd buy it if it were wearable to men!

Cheap-looking, I wouldn't wear any of this.

Heather

10/30/2009

Totally agree with Katelyn. Any clothes with the Olsen name should be completely independant and unique of their own personal style... They should just stick to the top dollar clothing lines they've already invested so much time into. I feel like this line was designed by an affiliate of their company, not the Olsens themselves. I'm very disappointed, but that doesn't mean that I won't purchase a shirt. True fans gotta represent! :D

i love the olsens but their line is really generic. and i hate that it has the brand name on everything.

Ughh i really dont like the peace signs, i see little 12 year olds wearing that. Im tired of seeing the same old thing, really.MKA have WAY better fashion sense, and they should put that instead of this crap, seriously.

I actually still dig the peace signs. It's a classic. The twins have great fashion sense, and it's pretty cool that they're doing something for Penny's; it's so accessible to so many... chloe flowerponychloe.onsugar.com

Um most of you are saying this is for 12 year olds-i'm 12 i would not be caught DEAD in these. Peace sign -blah. I was expecting something Vogue worthy. But this-this is hopeless. Mary kate and Ashley are suposed to be role model for elegant, sophisticated and confident young women......not the next miley cyrus. The only piece that matches the olsen's personality and fashion level is the blazer. This is so sad.they should've put their line at macy's so they could design it their way because JCPENNEY has regulations of the way the designers design the clothes but at macy's it would b alrite.

11/08/2009

The simple fact is that the olsen twins would never wear these clothes so its a joke for them to make this cheap clothing line for JC Penny of all places, which is clearly not the place to go for your fashion needs. Sorry. I love mary kate and ashley they're style is unique and even when strange it's interesting.. but their joke of a fashion line is dissapointing. I suggest celebrities create their fashion lines for stores like urban outfitters where you can find true fashion. And by doing so the quality of their so called fashion lines will hopefully be increased.

haha the peace sign is NOT classic. it's over used and over rated.
