LOOKBOOK: JEFFREY MONTEIRO

Timeless with a twist - and a few bursts of color.

When Jeffrey Monteiro’s designs first made it into the pages of NYLON, we raved about his “finely tuned sense of color and shape.”

That was back in April, but we still stand by our assertion.

For spring ’10, the designer gives classic pieces a modern twist. There are cropped cigarette pants with slits, skirts with inverted pleats, and blazers folded and nipped like a piece of origami.

There’s plenty of color, too: Terra cotta jackets, mandarin orange skirts, salmon slacks, and gauzy slate dresses round out the collection.

But just because his clothing is as covetable as ever doesn’t mean he isn’t evolving; spring also marks the debut of Monteiro’s shoe line. From the chunky zippers to the soft leathers to the wooden heels, the onetime Derek Lam designer (and collaborator on Kim Gordon’s Mirror/Dash line) proves that his vision can last more than a season.

I get mixed feelings about this one. looks a little boring and a little old, like older girls in their late 20s. Not entirely bad though, the dresses are nice. I'm not too big of a fan of minimalism and understatements.
