The Crystal Stilts drummer strikes out on her own - and we love it.
The big surprise isn’t that Frankie Rose is this week’s Band Crush—rather, it’s that it took her this long.
She is, after all, the musician who lent her vocals and sat behind the drum kit for NYLON faves Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Stilts, and Vivian Girls.
Now she’s on her own with Frankie Rose and the Outs and we’re already in love.
Think ‘60s girl group-meets-neo-psychedelia, with breathy harmonies that soar at just the right moment. Although she doesn’t have a ton of songs posted on her MySpace page—the three tracks include a demo of the excellent “Where Do You Run”, which she originally wrote for Vivian Girls—the band already has a 7” releasing at the end of the month on Slumberland Records (home to The Pains Being Pure at Heart, Stereolab, and Crystal Stilts). And if your record player is out of commission, Frankie Rose, along with the Outs (a four-piece backing band), will be hitting the road in November, before releasing a full-length in 2010.
While you wait, you can pre-order her first 7” on Insound.com—it’s fittingly called, Thee Only One.
