Real Housewives of Atlanta they’re not, but the Georgia-based Coathangers have something even better going for them: talent.
Since releasing
Scramble, their sophomore album, earlier this year, the punk foursome have been tearing up stages, burning up eardrums, and crowding dance floors. You can catch them doing just that on their current cross-country tour, which takes them from Providence to Portland with Japandroids.
But, of course, the best place to see them is in their hometown of Atlanta. Even if they’re not playing a show, here are a few places you’ll likely find them.
The Coathangers’ perfect day in Atlanta.... Gato Bizco for brunch1660 Mclendon Ave NEIf you love cats and are looking for the best sweet potato pancakes in town, this is the spot! Locally owned and operated in Candler Park, this tiny diner is not only delicious, but also inexpensive. Plus, Rusty Coathanger (our drummer) works here!
Criminal Records1154-A Euclid Ave NEOne of the largest independent record stores in ATL. Not only can you find amazing records here, but also magazines, comic books, and kiss dolls, err, we mean, action figures. They have always been super-supportive [of us].
Kudzu Antiques2928 E Ponce De Leon AveThe ultimate cool crap store! This place is gi-normous, and has everything—antiques, furniture, old records, vintage clothing…They even have an antique confessional booth from an old church for sale, something we hope to buy and use one day.
El Myr for dinner1091 Euclid Ave NEWe visit this burrito joint almost everyday after practice. It's cheap, delicious, and has two of our favorite things: PBR and margaritas!
Little Five Points Liquor Store448 Moreland Ave NE Need we say more? This is our one-stop shop for booze and cigs...Our moms would be proud! It's just what the doctor ordered before any event.
529529 Flat Shoals AveThis recently-opened bar and music venue is one of our faves in ATL. It's small, and the sound is great. When it gets too crowded inside, there's an outside patio that has a drive thru window to the bar inside—what more could you ask for?
