Putting wings on a shoe isn't exactly new territory - Jeremy Scott keeps doing it
on his Adidas sneakers, and Prada did a conceptual pair of in-flight heels last year. Plus there's every school cross country team, whose sweatshirts showed a winged running shoe - an homage to Mercury, the Roman messenger to the gods who first started the kooky fashion trend way back in 1000 BC.
But Vivienne Westwood's latest shoes for Melissa
do get a gold star for uniqueness, despite featuring giant wings on the side. That's because they're platforms, they're Crayola colored, and they're 100% plastic - and therefore, 100% recyclable.
Clomp around in them like Daisy Lowe and Pixie Geldof (both of whom showed up on Viv's catwalk this week in London), run to catch a taxi or catch up with the guy you like, dance until you fall over... then daintily drop them in the plastics-only bin next year, if the wings have worn out their welcome.
Of course, we can't actually see that happening, but just in case...
