There’s been some controversy surrounding Stella McCartney’s new fragrance, STELLANUDE, and it’s not just because the perfume is inspired by lingerie.
But just a spritz of the scent, which launches today, will make you forget it all. The blend of Moroccan rose, white Peony, and Ugandan vanilla is as delicate as it is seductive. Like wearing a lacy bra under a faded concert tee, the fragrance is surprising in its subtlety, becoming its own secret shared only with intimate contact.
It’s a stark shift away from the usual perfume ideology, which assumes that loud, attention-grabbing notes will do the talking for you. STELLANUDE isn’t for wild nights dancing on tables and tumbling into cabs—but rather, for dressing up in vintage silks and cable-knit stockings. Which doesn’t mean that you can’t have a little fun in the scent. As McCartney herself explains, “I love the idea of walking through a scented mist in your lingerie…It’s quite a cheeky, intimate way to start the day.”
The only problem? One whiff of STELLANUDE and you might feel guilty about those basic cotton undies you’ve had for years.
