Breaking into the fashion industry has always been rough, but in today's tangle of celebutantes and internet wars, there seems to be a formula:
1. Be a celebrity (see: Rachel Bilson for DKNY), be working for a celebrity (see: Rachel Zoe for Halston), or turn yourself into a fake celebrity (see: anyone on
Project Runway).
2. Work for a major label for years, and then start your own line (see: Chris Benz, who came from Marc Jacobs; Prabal Guring, who came from Bill Blass).
3. Make amazing, affordable leggings.
At least, that was the trick for Jessie Faire, whose ShiboriLove tights are hand-dyed using a Japanese resist technique and therefore each one is uniquely one of a kind.
Following in the steps of Kova & T and LnA, she's making a name for herself with the catwalk crew one leg at a time. And because the leggings are $34 each, you'll get the handiwork of a couture house, with the price tag of an Urban Outfitters jaunt.
Wannabe fashion stars, take note...
