IBEAUTY

A pocket-size personal shopper that's good for you and your makeup collection.

It’s easy to read about the ingredients you should and shouldn’t put in your body.

But when you’re standing in the beauty aisle, hypnotized by some brightly colored eyeshadow, it’s hard to keep them all straight.

Consider, then, Kaia House’s Organic 101 as your pocket size protector. The organic beauty brand's new iPhone app lists the chemicals you should look for on the labels of your favorite lotions, lipsticks, and perfumes. There are six categories—scent, skin, body, hair, baby, and makeup—with each page breaking down the damaging synthetic chemicals, their side effects, and the benefits of going organic.

Although it sometimes reads like a bad dream (breathing problems, asthma, cancer, and birth defects are among the listed health problems associated with some of the ingredients), it’s good to have a bit of guidance when you’ve got a wall-to-wall shelf full of body lotions. And best of all, the app is totally free, so you can feel a bit better about splurging on a whole new set of product.

A stress-free shopping trip—now that’s a thing of beauty.
