GO NUTS

GO NUTS

A new beauty line that's good for your skin - and local farmers, too.

Sorry girl scouts, but chocolate-caramel cookies are no longer the best thing to be inspired by Samoa. Instead, it’s The Body Shop’s new coconut range.

Like all Body Shop products, the line—featuring products like body butter, shower cream, and soap—softens hands, smooths lips, and scrubs bodies in a matter of seconds. Like all coconut products, the line smells rich but light (and delicious to boot). But there’s something different about this collection: The coconut oil is sourced directly from a cooperative in Samoa.

That means that the 200 workers who grow, harvest and extract the virgin oil used by The Body Shop receive fair wages for their labor. It also means that the ingredient is 100 percent traceable and organically certifiable. In fact, the beauty company worked with Samoa’s Women in Business Development Inc. to build the partnership, ensuring that the Pacific Island community got a fair deal. It’s a bit like knowing the exact farm your strawberries were harvested or your chickens were raised, only with results a bit prettier.

And though it’s not quite craving-inducing like a box of Samoas, we’d wager that the Body Shop’s new coconut products will leave you feeling a whole lot better an hour later.

PRETTY IS AS PRETTY DOES:
A lip gloss that will give you a bit of a buzz.
A dermatologist that makes house calls.
A mascara wand that promises an even tan.
