Got plans for the summer?
Time to pull out your calendar.
This week, Barack Obama announces the first ever Summer of Service, a new call to action (and adventure) for America's youth.
Here's the deal: Pick a community you love (arts, sports, animals, anime...) and find a way to serve it. Think skater guys are cute? Organize a board race for your favorite charity, and get them all involved. Live to play bass in your band? Hold a free concert where admission costs cans of food that you send to a shelter. You can start a Zine about your favorite cause, or hold a fashion show about the environment,
whatever - just get excited and get involved.
Artists / filmmakers / photogs, you're needed, too. All summer long,
service.gov will document community activists with pictures, drawings, and short films. Submit your snaps, movies, and illustrations, and your art will be on its way to the White House.
Service.gov can also hook you up with projects already in progress, so if you want to find a community group (or stalk your do-gooder crush at the animal shelter), this is the way to go.
Sign up for the Summer of Service and show the world (and America) that cool, creative young people are more than just hipsters and hip-hop connoisseurs- we're the ones who can get good things done... as long as there's a good soundtrack involved.
