Although nail polish has recently become a big accessory on the runways (
Rodarte got their own gray shade and
Chanel dictates what we'll be wearing on our fingers six months down the line) and new shades that we need to own seem to come out every day (as evidenced by the line-up of bottles in our bathroom cabinet), the texture of it has stayed the same. Until now.
Matte is the new black, if we are to listen to brands such as Revlon and Manglaze. No longer shall our nail gloss be popping; instead, get ready to lacquer up shine-free. The new muted polishes are flat in color and devoid of shimmer, and even knock off a couple minutes from your beauty regime (matte looks best without a base and top coat).
If you haven't tried it yet, we bet you will by the end of the summer, since OPI and Zoya are joining the matte bandwagon. Zoya is coming out with MatteVelvet, a three-piece collection featuring the crimson "Posh", coal black "Dovima", and slate gray "Loredana". Following on its heels is OPI, which is releasing a six bottle collection this July, with shades such as the saddle brown "You Don't know Jacques!" and eggplant "Lincoln Park After Dark", all of which are gleam-free.
For some people, it's a muted alternative to the shimmers, shines, and glitters of the polish world. For others, it's the beauty equivalent of running nails down a chalkboard. Not sure which category you fall into? We recommend mixing and matching the two textures with a reverse manicure, or one matte nail, another regular nail. Because while It Colors come and go, individuality never goes out of style.
