SWATCH THIS

SWATCH THIS

From band-desinee to watch band, in one easy step.

It's no secret that graphic novels and comic strips have influenced the fashion world - just look at last year's Costume Institute theme, Superheroes and Villains, to see the connections.  So it's cool, but not shocking, that Swatch has some news:

This summer, they release The Corto Maltese, a jelly-on-jelly watch in honor of the comic book designer Hugo Pratt.  His eternal hero (yes, Corto Maltese) is a sailor, adventurer, and sometime pirate whose claim to fame is neat but bloody: As a child, he discovered his palm had no life line, so he carved one himself with a knife as a reminder that he could make his own fate.  Eew / Aah!

The watch corresponds with an international exhibit on the art of Hugo Pratt, set to debut this September in Switzerland.  It's $112, and waterproof, so if you get into the same kind of nautical scrapes as Corto himself, you won't have to worry.  At least, not about your watch...
