The screen siren teams up with Pete Yorn for the ultimate break-up album.
Is Scarlett Johansson the new Brigitte Bardot?
Pete Yorn seems to think so.
Back in 2006, the New Jersey-born rocker had a dream about recording a duets album, just like Serge Gainsbourg and Bardot did in the late ‘60s. It was before Johansson took to the stage with The Jesus And Mary Chain at Coachella or released her Tom Waits covers, but Yorn had a feeling she was the one for the project.
As it turned out, Johansson did too, and soon after they recorded nine songs together. Only, they were kept private—until now. Three years later and the duo has decided it’s time for their “little adventure” (Johansson’s words) to get a bit bigger.
Starting today you can stream the first single, “Relator”. It will be another few months until the other eight songs make it to your local record store; the album, titled Break Up, comes out September 8. We promise that Johansson’s trademark voice will sound just as deep and Yorn’s trademark songs just as catchy in fall 2009 as when they recorded back in 2006.
As for a torrid love affair, a la Gainsbourg and Bardot? We’ll let the tabloids cover that one…
