MASCARADE

MASCARADE

New products promise to make your eyelashes grow - but do they work?

Beauty brands always advertise that their mascaras will make your lashes look longer, thicker, and fuller. But now, there’s a new crop of wands that they promise will actually make your lashes grow.

It’s a claim that we had trouble taking seriously; like cookies that are supposed to make you skinnier and vitamins that promise to make you smarter, the idea of lash fertilizer sounded dubious at best, and dangerous at worst.

Which didn’t stop us from becoming beauty guinea pigs. So in the name of science—and potential Minnie Mouse eyes—we tested out three new mascaras. The results? Totally eye-opening.

LASH FOOD
"The good news is the "all natural" lash activator didn't hurt my eyes or skin, it just felt like cold water when applied.  The bad news is it also worked like cold water - I didn't see any difference in the look or feel of my lashes after two weeks of use." – FARAN KRENTCIL

SMASHBOX LASH DNA
“I’ve been battling eyelash split-ends (don’t laugh), so the fact that this mascara both conditions and repairs was a plus. The mix of proteins and amino acids seems to have done the trick – although you might want to stay away if you have trouble following instructions, since the mascara comes with a step-by-step explanation.” – REBECCA WILLA DAVIS

CARGO LASH ACTIVATOR
"Though I didn't see any growth in my lashes, I loved the way this mascara separated each lash to give the illusion of thicker, more glamorous eyes.  The effect was very 'doll face.'  Now I use it every day." – FK
$35 at sephora.com

Love the article, it is SO GOOD to read reviews before splurging money ($120 BUCKS!?) on beauty supplies. -Do you have any input on the Rock & Republic Mascara? -Also, I just tried Maybelline's "Stiletto" mascara... really does help lengthen (although not permanently). I was impressed!

OR, you can use plain vaseline in the mornings(let soak in 10 mins, then wipe it off, and apply mascara) and in the night time (apply, do not wipe off, sleep.) and in 5 - 7 days you'll see results. Hum, which is better, paying 120 on a product that doesnt work, or using a product thats already in your own home?

sooo good to see some comparisons for a change! one eyelash-growth product that *does* produce results isn't listed here. it's called Lashem. I started using it because it doesn't contain the glaucoma medication so many of the other products do. the potential side effects of a product containing that medication made me nervous--as do most things that have to do with my eyes (i refuse to get laser surgery for my nearsightedness, too!). With Lashem, there's little risk of side effects--i haven't experienced any--and my lashes are stronger than ever!
