WHO PUT THE ROMP?
A short list of our favorite Spring rompers.
I wasn't always a believer in The Romper. In fact, when I saw them drifting down Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs' spring runways, I was kind of appalled. We're grown women, I thought. Why are you putting us in a sandbox throwback?
Up until then, my exposure to rompers was small. My friends wore them in preschool (although I refused, already waging fashion wars at age three). Kelly Kapowski wore them on Saved by the Bell. And then Carrie Bradshaw wore one from Chanel, in that SATC episode where she dated a comics dealer who lived with his mom.
This was before I got my own romper, a gift from LA designer Corey Lynn Calter. "Are you kidding?" I laughed when I pulled it out of the box. But then I tried it on.
Unlike a miniskirt, the romper's teeny shorts can't cause a Britney-esque wardrobe malfunction. You can adjust where the waist falls - belt it at your hips if you've got a larger bottom, belt it at the waist if (like me) you barely have one. And with a blazer and heels, the romper looks (dare I say it?), adult and sexy.
Below are eight rompers that just flooded stores. You don't have to fall in love, but please - no judgments until you try one on.
